My 997.1 turbo and it goes like a bat out of zuffenhausen

Never sell those Manthey Mags. Sub zero cool and rare as hens teeth. This was the first owner of your turbos other 911 (both used for hill climbs) with those exact same wheels on with correct (for a Manthey M600 GT2) 245 35 19 front and 325 30 19 rear Cup 2s ;)

I was looking at GT2 parts on Teile the other day and noticed that nowadays in Europe just the OEM GT2 rear decklid costs more than the entire list of parts I needed for a full GT2 conversion!

They're definitely not for sale anytime soon but I am thinking about a colour change 🤔 agree re the tyres! They're currently on 235/35/19 and 305/30/19 as supplied from JZM. I wonder why they went for this size instead of the original set? Only reason for no immediate change is that they're such a conversation piece!

 last I checked they were 18k!! That rules that out haha. Can I share a dirty secret? There's a certain 997tt that's gone for a gt3rs decklid and spoiler mixed in with gt2rs bumpers and it looks awesome!

I'm really tempted to go for the erams for the additional option of height adjustability but the sensible person in me tells me to go for a rebuilt set of rams

We need to get this back on the dyno for some logs to see how she is running. I have also further developed the software and added more map switching since this was done. I'd suggest adding a map for just water injection as well as the water/meth. That's what I run mine on on track as it's more convenient. I can't remember what we did to the Tiptronic but i have some updates for that too :)

Did wonder what the other 3(?) maps were that Craig was running. I thought perhaps you'd tuned it for bottom/middle/top end power maps. Fuel/water injection makes somewhat more sense 😂 ha
A visit is something that's been on my mind. I'm heading out of the capital for a minor service later on this year so will try and schedule in a visit 👍

So er... I'm doing a thing....
A while ago I put my feelers out to a few breakers that I have rapport with. I let them know I'm dead keen to get my hands on the illusive gt3/2rs fabric door pulls. Turns out there's a rather over engineered set of parts required to make it all work happily and so my only option was to purchase a pair of RS doors with cards.

Before you say anything about the replicas available, I had the replica style handles but got rid of them as they just felt a bit... Tacky? (if that's the right word) 🤷‍♂️

Fast forward somewhat, I have dismantled the doors and cards then 3D scanned the parts that I can and the parts that are too intricate or difficult for the scanner to scan, I'll be sitting down and designing with my vernier caliper. You can see that even these scans require repairing.

The "master" plan is to redesign and manufacture a set for my car to mount my Tractive Suspension Controller screen in the convex part of the door spear. So you'll only be able to see it when the door is open and when closed the rest of the cabin will look completely normal.

I can hear the James Bond theme music as we speak.

Anyone that knows this kind of work... It can take hours and HOURS to get it just right. But the beauty of it is that once it's all done, I'll be able to manufacture a 1:1 replica of which I cut into and not worry about making mistakes or it going wrong.

Total nerd moment.

Parking that aside as it's a real labour of love.

I bit the bullet. Since day 1 of owning the car I've always said I want a bigger wing and convinced myself early on that I would go for a gt2rs wing when the time is right but as time passed my appreciation of the subtle 997 tt has really grown on me.

With the hydraulic rams officially giving up the time came to make my decision. It was either repair my rams, fiberglass 2rs decklid (cheapest OEM wing currently available from a reputable dealer is circa €24k!) or stay true to the what Porsche designed and go Aerowing.

In the end I went with an OEM 997.1 Decklid and Aerowing. Got even more lucky and landed it with the third brake light and correct wiring loom. Looks much cleaner and the standard hydraulic wing decklid and eliminates the the problematic hydraulic spoiler Rams completely and forever!

Need to get it resprayed, fitted and coded correctly but I cannot wait! Will be like having a new car 😀😀

Ever seen rocking horse 💩?

I can hear some of you are screaming "you need to balance front and rear aero omg omg" but in reality and in relation to the front lip and rear wing, the function of the front lip is not to counterbalance the rear wing's downforce (as the front lip generates minimal downforce). Instead, the rear wing is specifically designed to match the spring rate of the rear suspension. The front lip is there to prevent air from coming underneath the car. For it to work properly, it needs to be low to the ground, and I think the distance between the spoiler and the ground is more important than the slight differences in shape between different designs.

The way the front lip works is quite different from the rear wing where the angle, size, and height of the rear wing have a big effect on how much drag and lift it generates.

So for now I'll run standard turbo lip and skirts. If I can't stand the look of it, I'll change it

looking good

Good choice 😁👍

Thanks for the advice via DMs and I can confirm I broke the third brake light 😂😂

IMG_20240321_111345.jpg

Who knew that the prices from body shops vary so wildly? Had quotes from £400 - 1600! I ended up going with someone I've used before.

Picsart_24-03-23_09-48-35-111.jpg

Managed to save the badge - not sure how to reattach lol any ideas?

2024_03_23_094637074.jpg

Also, had to make a decision about what to do with the bracket that joins the top plane to the decklid. Had some people suggest not to spray it due to tolerances but considering it came sprayed originally I asked for it to be sanded back to bare metal and resprayed as it would have been oem

On the whole super excited!!

Unlucky with the brake light think they go brittle over time, I got some thin double sided tape to put the badge back on trimmed round with a blade for a clean edge before putting it back on.

Paint looks spot on 👍

Yeah agreed, surprisingly easy to snap! Eyes nearly fell out of my face when I saw a £200 price tag on ebay but luckily D911 has them at circa £90 so not so bad really. Will give opc a call tomorrow and see if I can get that down even further.

What did you do with the rubber weather strip? Can you purchase these new from anywhere?

Thanks for the tip, added to shopping list lol. Lots of bits to buy to piece it all back together nice and renewed. Grommets, push tie clips and I'm thinking to jazz the engine bay with carbon ducts instead.

Have seen this build by bbi:dc48bfffe64530eadde1e047e61846f3.jpeg

Think it's an awesome look from this angle. Techart diffuser and Aerowing go great with the gt2 skirts and 997.1 fenders

Have been busy but have been piecing it all back together. Hit a bit of a brick wall due to trying to replace old parts of the wing.

IMG_20240413_112756.jpg

Beneath both air intake ducts there is a small plastic piece that helps guide air down the ducts and not loosing it to the cavity within the wing:

IMG_20240413_112835.jpg

On one side, the plastic piece was already broken and as I cleaned it, it snapped again and the other was cracked and ready to break.

After a few phone calls I gave up trying to source it and decided I'd just design a better fitting one myself. You can see from these pics there's gaps all around it.

IMG_20240413_112530.jpg

Spoiler Part.jpg

This is v2 of this design as the first didn't fit so have taken measurements and redesigned it to be nice and snug.
Definitely a more thorough design than original from porsche so should be better than new (fingers crossed).

Should this fit perfectly I'll be happy to share the file with others

/Edit:

I can confirm they fit 😀IMG_20240413_190013.jpg

Not feeling the white. Will make a carbon pair

Nice job on the ducting, that box looks about the right size for a front splitter😁
