997 Values (997.1/997.2). 2021

Thoughts on 997 values...

Morning folks

I've been looking through 997 adverts again just recently, probably 12 months or so since I last looked. Prices across the entire 997 range seem very strong, it would cost me ~25% more to buy a 2007 Carrera S now than it did back in 2015 when I bought my last one.

Is this just how the values have increased recently or are the values just inflated at present and expected to drop again?

Thanks

There's been ongoing discussion throughout the year so I've merged your post with this thread.

Prices have been rising steadily over the course of the year. The delays of new cars arriving on the market have made prices of existing cars increase. Prices will probably level off as they usually do heading into the winter months (especially for cabriolets) but others do feel there will be a price correction on the way at some point when new cars gradually start to become more readily available. This could be 2022, 2023 or later.

I do think there is an element (small or big) that perhaps the prices of decent 997s (especially the gen 2 cars) might have bottomed out and could be on the rise, but who knows!?

This video is fairly recent and also mostly focused on America but is worth a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JBe2ERRa3s

I enjoyed the Hagerty table, especially the side note that stated that "non-sunroof cars excluded from the data as they are virtually unsellable and are only any use as track day hobby toys".

I know as Porsche owners, there's nothing better than a bit of solid speculation about values and so on, but I do note that when I was looking for my worthless sunroof-and-wiperless 9972, there were few around, and none without the PDK, except for just one GT3 which was a manuel. But then I was in Dubai and the UAE which are closer to the American market (and dominated by automatics).

What was interesting was that by 2017, some Germans were flying in to look at 997s to see if they could pick them up ... I met one chap who lived next door to TechArt in Stuttgart. Not sure if he went home empty handed.

I read something the other day that said prices would remain high for 18 months, as new car supply will not be sorted out before then.

I am watching prices and looking to see if they start dropping. I've ordered a new 992 GTS and delivery is in 9 months to a year.... So, want to time selling my 997.1 right to maximise its value, against enjoying it some more before I move it on. Will miss it, but its time to upgrade for me.

The theory is that luxury cars will get the supply back first, but suspect Porsche will focus on Taycans over 911, thought an OPC did tell me they are focusing on 992 GTS models at the moment as they see it as the sweet spot and most desirable......

For me, key was they offer a manual gearbox on it, so I have manual C2S Cab 997.1 at the moment, sports chrono, very high spec car, and moving to a 992 GTS Manual Cab. Current is black on black, but going the other direction with Lava Orange and Truffle Brown interior, brown hood :)

That would be a very nice individual car :thumb:

What does the order paperwork say about final price? Ie price locked in or still variable if list price changes etc?

As has been commented earlier in this thread, there seems to be a wide spread in prices. An example is the number of 997.2 Black Editions currently on the market, Autotrader have four advertised the least expensive at £41K with 66K miles then £42.5K with almost 46K miles, a non specialist dealer very near me has one at £46K with 49K miles and finally a private advert for the only manual car at £48.5K with 61K miles; this last one by sheer coincidence happens to be number 392 / 1911 the next in sequence after mine. BTW, does anyone have an idea how many of the 1911 worldwide came to the UK?

Would be fairly confident about selling mine for what I paid for it back in 2017 but with 10,000 extra miles. Of course inflation comes into play slightly.

Prices to remain strong on these I think, especially 997.2 with high spec. Even at £25-30k for a 997.1 you're getting such a lot of car for your money. Difficult to know what to suggest for other sports cars at the same budget really.

Some months back when I was looking for some factual information into 997.1 turbo manual prices I came across a website that gathers the advertised (not sold or auction) prices of cars and was able to present them in a nice neat graph.

This information doesn't take into account the extremely cheap or expensive.

What you can see is that there's been some serious fluction in prices. The last plot on the was from June of this year and things seem about the same now and my guess is that there will be a year or 2 of just minimal price volatility such as from Sept 2014-jan 2016

And unfortunately the website has since shut down to provide more up-to-date information!

This information also includes cars with a steering wheel and sunroof

Black Edition

bennettonward said:
I think i have just found the answer to my own question.
It seems there were a total of just 20 Black Edition 997.2 coupes and cabriolets registered in the UK during the 2011 model year and 18 remain on the road or under SORN;
so a far rarer car than I originally thought.

Well,I have one of the 18. Hope the figures are right. Love the car.

I am not certain that my previous statement is completely accurate as the registration document and DVLA quote my Black Edition simply as a 2011 Carrera 2 coupe.
Congratulations on a descerning choice of model, how long have you owned it?

Only had it since spring and bought from local specialist who has serviced my cars for many years. 2011 model. Was detailed by White Details a couple
of years ago (actually features on one of his You Tube videos) so in v good condition. Replaces my little 04 Boxster which I had for some 12 years.
Re selling at the wrong time I had a 964 and a couple of Rolex GMT's back in the day. Don't think I lost on them but all three rocketed in value after I sold...
Really enjoy the ride, size and performance combination of the 997.2 and the little extras of the Black Edition (especially the Turbo wheels) adds to the appeal.

Trust you are enjoying yours!

I totally agree with everything you have said, I would also add that the limited number in the UK of the Black Edition adds a little something extra to the pride of ownership. Mine is as per my signature No. 391 and is a PDK with sport plus and has only covered 35,500 ish miles, I bought her in late November last year and since then have substituted the centre silencer for an 'X- pipe' with quad tips and added coloured centre caps to the wheels also at a recent major service I had the air filter changed out to a re-usable sports filter, that lot has improved the sound under throttle quite a bit as I don't have the sports exhaust fitted.
Can I suggest that you introduce yourself in the Newbies section and also there is a thread to identify which model you own, would be great to have a new addition as there are currently only two Black Editions registered here.
