Hi all

It's been a couple of months since I started looking for a red 997. At the time there were 4 red 997.2's on the market. Fast forward a few months and the same 4 cars are still for sale, all at dealers/specialists.

I've noticed so lower prices on other marques over the past few months which I assume is down to higher interest rates. What's the general picture with 997's, are prices softening and with the end of the summer looming does winter offer a good opportunity as a buyer?

Finally, I have only been considering 997.2's but there is a 997.1 at William Crawfords that I can't stop looking at. It's an early 2004 C2 Tip in guards red with a GT3 bodykit. It's been sat for sale since April at £37k and I wondered what people thought of the car?

I know purists will hate it but I LOVE the way the GT3 looks and that matched with the back seats and usability of a 997 is a win win for me. I believe all the replica parts are after market and not OEM. I have spoken to them about the car to see if there was any room to negotiate on the price but they say they are firm at £37k.

My head says it's very expensive for an early base car and being a tiptronic, but my heart says it's a good looking car. Would love some advice on what you think of the car and the asking price.

My honest suggestion is wait for the right one to come.

Alternatively you can get a suitable gen 2 and wrap in Red :D

Can't say that car is for me. Definitely not at £37k! I appreciate the body kit looks like it's been done well, but surely you could buy a car at £25k and spend money getting it exactly to your taste? Way too expensive for what it is IMO.

Agree with the above that this is firmly in Gen 2 money.

Buy this and spend £4K on making it yours:

Agreed.

That is a £23-25k car with a body kit.

OK, so you may pay more for it being a colour you want, we all do that, but £37,000 for a 20 year old 997.1 non S tiptronic?

There is a reason it is still sat there.

I think I would rather find another £13k or so and buy a 991 if you can't find a red 997.2.

Buy a 997.2 if you want to go automatic, the tiptronic will leave you wanting more - especially if you end up with a base spec 997.

I personally love the look of that red 997.1, but I would put my money on a .2 and add the Aero stuff afterwards

I think prices will still come down a bit. Keep up with your target red cars and you might well get a good deal over the next months.

If you can't score a gen 2 then you could find a cheap red gen 1 manual car and treat it as a project. You could probably get a Hartech 4.1 conversion and a GT3 body kit for the price of that £37k car if you were to do as much as possible yourself!

In fact a really cheap base manual Carrera with a knocking engine would be a possibly and get it resprayed in guards red too!

I'd suggest you buy a decent 9972 with an interior and spec you love and then get it wrapped in guards red, as that will widen the search and take out the premium for rarity. Not everyone loves Guards Red.

The 997 at Williams Crawford has a 10 year gap in the service history - apparently due to being in storage. It's gen 2 money for a gen 1 car. The GT3 bodykit isn't genuine either.

I would wait until the right one comes along.

Thanks all for the info, it's really good to have everyone's feedback as I want to make sure the car I get is the right one.

I let them know yesterday that I am passing on this one and explained that while I liked the car I think we are too far away in price. I'll keep looking, I'm in no rush and want the car to be right. A gen 2 Carrera S remains my dream car. I'm also considering white as well as guards red which should open up the search more

Visually that car looks great from the outside. The price, as others have said, is 997.2 money. I would not consider a Tiptronic, however, your needs may suit it.

If your heart is set on Guards Red, which is a fantastic colour I have to agree, wrap it or get a colour change done by Riviera Autobody. Ty has nearly finished mine: C4 Stripped for colour change - SUGGESTIONS.

I would wait a little longer as prices are beginning to soften, and personally I would start my search again after Christmas. Buy as much car as you can afford which you can add to over time, whether that is body kit or colour.

I know the owner
Was one of the collection delivery drivers at Porsche Exeter for many years
True enthusiast and a. Lovely guy
The car has certainly been well looked after

There’s a nice 997.2 bas Carrera guards red PDK at friends green Porsche. It has some S level kit also. I’ve actually driven it and it’s in great condition. Luke and the gang have a great outfit and channel on YouTube. I ended up up with an arctic silver 997.2 C2S PDK but I did love the guards red they have. It also features in one of the vids up against a Caymen S. worth a watch of this 2 part video!
