Hi

Sadly finally gonna have to let my 2008 997 targa 4 go.
I ve done less than 7k in 3 years as my kids will no longer fit in it.
Also have a camper van and need to combine the function of that with the performance of the Porsche.

Looking at AMG and M wagons / SUVs

I've had done trade values on it if £22-24k

I know I could get more for it privately but would I see another £4-5k?

Needs a hood mop and polish as lives on my drive.

2008 Porsche 911 997 Targa 4 3.6 Tiptronic
Basalt Black with contrasting sand beige extended leather interior
78k Miles
6 months MOT
2 keys
Full service History part Porsche part specialist.
Disks and pad less than 5k miles
New set of correct Porsche matts front and rear
Heated front seats
DAB and BT connections for original Porsche head unit
19" Otto Fuchs light weight Forged alloys with 4 x Pirelli N Rated tyres approx.
Full alignment recently done
19" Original Porchse 5 spoke wheels with 4 x Pirelli N rate Winter tyres (wheels could so with refurb but only used them in winter)
Good condition throughout with some age related marks to paintwork and to drivers bolster but great for a 14 year old car.
Quick charger connect on the battery for when kept on trickle charge

I'm thinking I could put the original wheels back on and list the Fuchs separately.

I've got a few other bits such as a fly duck tail spoiler, few steering wheels paddles and new set of tip buttons.

Do I just go the easy route?
I'd rather it go to someone who looking.

A quick look at AT suggests that it might be retailed by a dealer at £30k / low 30's, so you should be able to get more privately. It might take some time though.

Why not list it privately, see if you get any interest while you look for the new car? If/when you see the next car you want, I've seen a few people post ad's on the FB Porsche groups of "£X if within the next week or it will be traded in on ABC day"

I'd sell the Fuch wheels separately.

If you're desperate for a quick change part-ex is obviously the way to go.

If you've got a bit of time a private advert at a really competitive price could net you £1.5k-£2.5k more.

It's probably not the time of year or financial climate to ask a high price and wait for offers but hoping for £4k-£5k more than 'trade' seems a bit ambitious.

Thanks for the responses.

Think it confirms what I was thinking and was as you say wishful thinking on the £4-5k.

Why not post it for sale on here, for free!

It worked for me :)

Sorry for my rant...... This is a safe space to open up isnt it

I feel your pain! Having daily driven 911's for over ten years, and had my current 997 C4S for over 3 years ive always "hated" the comments, ooh I have to sell as my kids no longer fit...... alas its all too real - and we hardly use Penny now. So I was looking to sell recently, had someone want to swap for a really cool Landy (I hadnt even advertised Penny). However spent all day in her yesterday, having scraped the ice off - I just love it wayy too much!!

What do parents do when their kids no longer fit in the back... I already have a stupid uncomfortable race car, a tip run car, plus the wifes car so I kinda feel I need a useable sports car which the kids actually fit in.

What do people move into after 911 ownership, and having had 3 911s as when I do sell, I regret it, loose loads of money on what ever I just bought and end up back in another 911 lol!!!

Mustang is also too small in the back (smaller than the 911)
M2, yet chavvy (too old for M power any more I feel)
AMG always feel too heavy

oh and PS - motorway offered me a silly low number on Penny!!

I've not yet got there myself, but if your kids don't fit in the back, then haven't you basically got a 2-seater anyway, ie if you can never use the 2 back seats anyway. That opens you up to a lot more options but you'll have to use it differently.

I think an M2 would be good. I miss the sound my E46 M3 made - also went on holiday with it, great car - that could be an option and probably wouldn't go down in value!

Overall, kids growing up is a symptom of time is moving on, which makes any decision like this more sentimental

We have a camper van (Toyota Alphard 2.4 dual motor hybrid) and electric run around (e-up! Which is great). Camper is gonna go as again kids to big and other adventures to have.

Fast wagons been on the list
E63
RS4/6

Panamera Sports tourismo hybrid
Taycan

Fast SUVs
x5 M
Cayanne hybrid or turbo

have arrived at Macan GTS.

Hoping it's not too tight in the back as reviews say leg room isn't great.

Been doing Carvertical checks and did the Targa.
Valuation was £28/29k. Which would love to get for it. Especially with the wheels on it.

See my other thread on the prep work had done. They did a fantastic job

Move to something like an RS4 or RS6 if it needs to do all the family type duties and be a sports car. Or gets the kids using public transport where applicable, and / or the other halves more sensible car. As mentioned, it really turns the 911 into a two seater, so perhaps change it for a dedicated two seater and have a family bus depending on budget and priorities.

The wheels look lovely, and really suit your targa. That said, I'd be inclined to set up a for sale ad for the wheels and look for a part exchange with somebody me (their OE wheels, plus cash your way). Are the genuine Fuchs, or reps? Might even be interested myself :D I've got a decent set for f WB lobster claws wrapped up on a shelf should I ever want to put stock wheels back on. Or you could do a straight sale and buy some cheap ones from eBay, if it's going to be traded in, etc.

Thanks, the vehicle would be for longer journeys , airport runs etc. we have the camper as the current adventure wagon which goes well long runs but around town it's to big.

The wheels are original Otto Fuchs took me 2 years to find them, 4 x n rated Pirelli's with at least 5.5mm.

Have the original 5 spokes to with winters on which need a refurb.

Probably worth a separate thread. Common theme when you need to give up the everyday sports car. Accept that a fast saloon/coupe/estate is the next best (compromise). Audi/BMW/AMG are worth a try. Or up the budget and go Ferrari.

Yesterday was the final day and spirited 150 mile trip in to pick up replacement.

Lovely drive back it doesn't feel like the 911 that hugged every inch of the road but goes pretty well.

I've got loads of bits I'll be listing
Flying duck spoiler - already in DMs on this.
Brand new set of tip buttons for 3 spoke sports steering wheel
3 x 3 spoke sports steering wheels ideal for send for customising.
Set of merc paddles with harness for making tip paddle shift
Porsche puddle lights
Various wheel centre caps

Did you part ex the 997 against the Cayenne then? What did you do with the Fuchs?

I was about to chime in to recommend the Macan but by the time I got to the end I saw you already made the choice yourself! Congrats. Bought one myself earlier this year. Best decision I made, love that car!
