Having dreamed of a 911 through the 80s, finally realised that about 3 years ago with a 997 Targa 4, though have only done about 5k miles in that time.

I'd full intended on keeping it for the long term, have lots of plans for OEM+ style mod with Fuchs wheels, duck wing spoiler and few subtle interior updates. I'd sourced all of the parts and had planned the winter hibernation to do the work.

Unfortunately due to a stroke in the close family have had to take on a 3rd car and the Porsche is not getting used.

I'd looked to trade it in and had various part ex prices of up to £28k but in reality with the reduced travel I now do really don't need a car.

Realise Jan/Feb is not the best timing to sell a Targa and not on a rush but wondering about general market pricing. If to put the wheels on or sell separately as original Fuchs 997 silver black.

I love driving the car and its fantastic when I take it out but just don't get the chance. The light airy cabin and right foot (once the to temp) action brightens any day, though I think it's time for one else can share in this experience.

It's moved from the number 1 drive spot to number 3 as we are back and forth to the hospital.

Sorry to hear, never good to feel that a car you love 'has' to go. However, having had two ( albeit minor ) strokes myself, they don't last forever , either the patient gets better, or better enough to resume life or .... Well you know what I'm saying. Why not just lay the car up properly for a year or so and see what happens. Lets face it a lot of cars have not been driven in the last couple of years! On the bright side, the secondhand car market is booming and will do so until the chip market gets back on track and I can't see that happening soon. I have been there and sometimes a period of waiting and a rethink allows you to get the result you would like. Sorry if this offends but it just rang so many bells with me.

Thanks for the post and your personal insight.

Not offended at all, it's a journey of change and day my day recovery and celebration of small successes.

Definitely thought about tucking the car way, having some of the upgrades done and bringing her back out.

Working in tech manufacture can agree the chip crisis isn't going away any time soon. Automotive is also eating a lot of chips the more specialist smaller markets in Audio and Video. Given components we use have blown out from 6 weeks to 60+ weeks.

Sorry to hear about the family illness and that your 911 is potentially having to go.

Upside as has been mentioned is that second hand prices are strong. Get yours listed in the Spring when the weather is warmer for sure.

As far as the wheel choice goes, I don't think it'll affect the sale price on the 911 whichever wheels you sell it with. I'd look to see which wheels (OEM/Fuchs) sell for most on the second hand market and sell those separately. Unless one set is very ratty of course.

OP, sorry to hear family commitments mean a possible change of plan. From my own experience, if you've got an original set of wheels you can put on the car, then do so as the extra coin you achieve for a non OEM set isn't worth it & the Fuchs will achieve more sold separately.

FWIW, I'd be waiting to list your car in mid/late March (weather permitting) & that you have the car newly MOT'd & serviced (where possible) to minimise people trying to chip you due to outstanding items of maintenance.

Just posting on the forum that you're thinking of selling might attract some interest hopefully.

Thanks all for the kind words and advice.

As suggested think will prep it a little for early spring. Well so it's well serviced and MOT is April. Had the full front end coolant pipes done last years so will tidy up any other jobs that raise their head.

Have had a few people interested in parts I'd planned to fit. Have I think 3 sport steering wheels, sets of tip buttons and merc paddles.

With prices hopefully holding strong till spring hoping can work out something that means it's not too painful to let go.
