Brembo front 6 pot upgrade. All new parts for under £1k ?

I've created a separate thread for the rear brake upgrade.

http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=1592595#1592595

Essentially I'm going to try and fit the later monobloc caliper from the GT4 GT3 997.2 family with 350mm discs for under £600.

Ok. Opinions needed.

As you know. I recently fitted some brand new yellow Brembo 6 pots front calipers from an Alfa Romeo.

I made some temporary decals for the Goodwood shakedown as seen below.

Now I need to decide what design to print for the next stage. I have sourced the correct yellow so I can go full yellow or grey contrast panel (similar to my black shakedown decals).

The decals will be semi permanent so I can change them every year or so.

What do you think about this design for the first run?

I'd go with the larger porsche decal(lower)

I assume the new master cylinder changed the pedal??

Thanks for your thoughts on the decal.

No idea on the brake feel, still building the larger rear calipers. Should know next weekend.

Finally got around to fitting the decals to the front calipers today.

Can't believe how good the yellow vinyl matches. So lucky.

I'll change the design of these every 3-6 months or so.

Ok. Project brakes completed.

Time to add up the invoices.

Fitted the larger brake ducts too. Only £10 each. Couldn't resist. GT2/3 rear versions on order too.

Good work! - Do you happen to know the weight of the 6 pot caliper?

Yeah. Did weight them actually. 5kg for the 6 pots.

These spare black ones are going on EBay soon.

£550.00 Alfa Romeo quadrafigiliiiioaro Brembo 6 pot calipers. Ebay.
(Accidentally bought black ones too before I realised they had them in yellow. Black ones were £620)

£0.00 brake pads. Included with calipers.

£87.98 2 x 350mm front discs. EBay.

£11.00 Tapered high tensile bolts. EBay.

£17.62 New caliper bolts. Design911

£5.00 Yellow vinyl. EBay.

£9.29 GT3 brake ducts. Design911

£40.45 (50% of Goodridge SS braided hose kit. Fronts) design911

£10.00 brake sensors. Modified OE type.

£12.00 caliper to strut hard pipes. Made from copper/nickel hose.

£48.00 EN24T steel bar. Specialist supplier.

£190 GT3 sized brake master cylinder. EBay.

£20.00 5 litres Dot 5.1 brake fluid

Total £1001.34 (labour DIY)

Budget blown. Dammit. I blame them darned GT3 brake ducts. 🤣😂

(Not included due to re-sale).

£55. Used 997/987 non S front knuckle to allow bench set up of caliper brackets. Will sell on EBay to get money back.

Conclusion.

Some will argue that I should have simply searched and purchase some Turbo or early 997 GT3 calipers (with offset legs) but as I found out, because I have non S struts fitted to my base Carrera, I had no option to do an upgrade without bespoke brackets.

In the end, having non S struts was a huge advantage. It meant that there was a larger difference between the hole centres meaning my brackets would be significantly stronger.

Do I think the brakes are better? Yes.

Am I happy with the strength of the set up? Yes. And I will check the torque settings periodically and after track events.

Do I think they look amazing? Yes. Yes. Yes.

Did I enjoy the project? Yes. Every minute. This is exactly why I wanted a car I could play with.

Would I consider making kits for other people? No. I designed & machined these whilst the workshop was quiet. And I am happy that these brackets are massively over engineered, but I take my own risks.

What have you learnt? I found out that EN24T is not as scary to machine as you might think. Bleeding brakes after having the system open is not straight forward. You might need a pressure bleeder, a pedal pumping helper and a scan too to operate the ABS pump procedure.

What's next? Hmmmm. Some interior fun I think.
