997 Used Dealer Markups

The difference is when the showroom sells it they give it a warranty and people feel better buying it from a dealer as they have comeback if things go wrong.

You can feel free to sell it yourself and not trade it to the dealer but the reality is you won't get what they will for it because of the perceived security (or actual security of a main dealer).

Don't forget the VAT on the profit the dealer has to pay, so that's a fifth of the profit gone to the tax man! :x

I didn't think there was VAT on used cars :?:

VAT is applied to the amount the exceeds the purchase price
bought for £30,000
sold for £40,000

VAT £1,666.67
profit £8,333.33

there's ways around VAT

Not for main dealers or any reasonable sized business.

To avoid paying VAT on any profit the business would have to hide the transaction.

How many businesses are you aware of that can achieve this on large transactions i.e Porsches etc?

Maybe if your a sole trader operating a back street garage ...... lol

I always look at the premises, size, decor, furniture, lights, floor, bullsh1t (lets not forget tyre shine and line vacuumed carpets)....and then make your mind up if its 10, 20 or 30% mark up.

Come on guys we all have to make money, otherwise we couldn't afford Porsches lol
I dont like to loose money on cars and I certainly don't like people profiting from my lose but that's life!
I know a number of people making plenty of money in other fields. I was at a good friends engineering company, I was leaning on a box full of small rubber parts. I asked what they were, I can't remember what the description was but I do remember the mark up, 50p to £5.00 he just bought a 991 4S the other month 😂😂

I had my car serviced by OPC today as I'm hopping to retain value. It's a 2006 997 Turbo with 53,000 on the clock and quite well up together even if I do say so my self. I have been keeping an eye on prices of similar cars on trader, piston heads and some of the more well known specialists and I'm guessing that my car would likely be up for £50ish there or there abouts retail. I asked how much it would be worth trade in against a newer Turbo and was told £31k was the price I was offered.

I think I will keep hold of the car then.

I'd really like to know some recent experiences from people who have sold through 911virgin and the like, as I'm very close to moving my 996t on for something new, but the main thing keeping me from doing it is the hassle of selling the car.

Do it mate, ring them them up, take one for the team and let's see the figures :thumb:

If your car is a proper thing then in my opinion 911Virgin will return the best figure. They are absolutely faultless in my experience.

A case in point is my 997 GT3 that I purchased from them in January 2015.
They sold it for me on an SOR basis in January 2016 and then sold it again in the early part of this year.
So because they are not greedy for profit they sold my car three times in two years because each owner was happy with the deal and in return cumulatively they will of made a sizeable sum.
Now that's a good business model.

I would defiantly go back to 911V to be honest, I was just interested in seeing what OCP would bid. After seeing this thread I thought I would ask and get a real life example. To be honest OPC did say that they would trade the car straight out due to the mileage. I thought I would get a kick in the plumbs talking to OCP about my car, I just didn't expect him to take a run up first :floor:
