Does the engine have an under tray to protect it. I thought it was a fully covered floor pan but mine is exposed so to speak.

Thanks for any assistance.

My 2003 C2 is the same ; the rearmost cover panel is either missing or never fitted?

Only covered up to the middle of the gearbox as faw as I'm aware.

The pic from Alex (although not a turbo) shows where the covers come up to from the factory on a Turbo, see pic of mine20240101_174636.jpg

I’ve not dropped to take a look at mine, but I’d have thought it would hinder cooling and airflow if it was all covered.

If I take a look later, I’ll revert.

The photos above are correct, 996 Turbos do not have a undertray covering the engine (or down the left and right handside of the center of the car - which changed on 997's)

A lot of engine cooling is provided by simple air flow under the car. That's why higher horsepower modified 986 or 987 cars have a problem with overheating. The engine is other way round and hard up against solid metal bulk head so gets a lot less air flow from under the car.

My C4S has on of these fitted.

Air duct

It attaches to the rear cross brace (not the ones fitted at an angle) and has scoops that direct airflow from under the car to the engine.

Well thats strange, on the pic from Alex the covers extend a couple of inches further (to the cross brace) than on my car, I think this is the part in Kersidans post?

Right I think I've worked it out, on my Turbo the most rearward panel has two Naca type ducts which direct air to the gearbox, on Alex's pic those ducts are missing from that panel but it has the extra short panel which also has a scoop. I think this is because it is a C4S.see below pic of a C4S

Yep that photo shows the undertray/panel. I wish my car was that clean underneath.
