Dear all,

After I sold my 997 and 964 (oh dear) and spent 2 + years with new 971 E-Hybrid and then 971 Pana Turbo S I am finally coming back to my senses and bought XC90 people carrier and I am bout to jump back to 911 seat.

I know this topic must have been covered many times, but I am still a bit torn apart what 911 should go for? GT3 is too extreme for public roads on my opinion, 991TT could be a tad bit too tame, apart from the 0-100mph performance and honestly maybe too fast to be usable with my skills, in order to drive on its limits (how it should be driven).

I had a fantastic 991.1 GTS ,PDCC , Lava Red, SP + ducktail and 918 seats in mint condition for over night test drive and loved the looks for bits and of course NA rumble and "roughness" of the car.
However coming from a monster Pana Turbo S with sub 3.0 second 0-60 , I felt it was a bit sluggish from the stand still, kind of missing the urge of turbo and low end grunt, if you may call it that way.
So I am now testing 991.2 GTS during next coming days. If that is the car to go for..

that said, I lost both my arm and leg on depreciation on my 1 year tenure of fully specc'd Pana Turbo S, where as on my 964 I gained in value and in 997C4S I didn't lose penny during 2 years ownership, although being garage queen with 5k miles only.

So trying to be sensible (humble wish), I thought I could predict a little bit the future values, so my guess and also feedback from this forum;
.1 GTS would be better bang for the money for residual point of view? eventhough Lava Red had 39k Kilometers on the clock and vs Miami Blue 15k driven 2018 .2 GTS? (PDCC, RAS, noselift, but not 918 seats)

As I am based in Finland, our lovely socialist government throws a curve ball to us, as we have this lovely thing called car tax. Our car tax is based on Co2 values, so 991 TT in principle you are looking at 60-80k EUR premium over GTS.
Hence, my thinking is that I would be better off with GTS, albeit .1 or .2

Any opinions, encouragements or just "***** off , you foreigner" comments would be appreciated

Cheers Guys👍

Good God! That's an outrageous premium! Thank Christ Corbyn didn't get in after our last GE.... :nooo: Your post may have given him ideas....

From what you've said there I'd say the 991.1 GTS. 3.8 lump naturally aspirated. Lovely

Speaking about premiums

To put these into a perspective:

991.1 2015 GTS 39k km's PDCC,SP, Lava Etc mint =160k Eur
991.2 2018 GTS 15k Km's PDCC , RAS, SP , MB =189k Eur
991.1TT 2014-2015 30-40k km's. = 200-220k Eur
991.2 TT S 2017 20k km's =250-270k Eur

Luckily we have double salaries and modest income taxation (not!!!)

You must love this country :frustrated:

I thought the Finns were the happiest nation on Earth? I think we could learn a thing or two from you. Your education system seems far ahead of ours, for instance. However, I just bought a GT3 Touring for the price you are paying for a 991.2 GTS. So, I doubt I'll be emigrating to Helsinki any time soon.

Anyway, back to your question. I'd go for a 991.2 GTS. But I am biased. The increased torque lower down in the rev range is its main advantage over the 991.1, plus the extra 30bhp of power. It doesn't quite sound as good, but above 4k rpm, it does have a decent enough engine note. And it looks prettier than the 991.1.

And the turbo just isn't worth the massive premium over the GTS, so I'd forget those.

Well, our left wing government haven't yet figured out the fact that taking the money from the "rich" and giving it to the "poor" doesn't make the total go up..

I've done my Uni's in a good old Scotland, so what would I know about our Finnish education..

I am leaning towards 991.2 GTS as well. Would love to have GT3 Touring, but paying north of 300k EUR in Finland for a one (If you could actually get one), is pretty much out of the reach or at least trying to be sensible..

You can always chip .2 GTS if more power is needed, I just liked the 991.1 GTS of its rawness and maybe it could be a better bang for the money.. just look at it with ducktail and all.. :worship:

991.2 GTS, chipped. Some guys down south have got the new turbo engines to 550bhp I believe. Not sure if that's whp or at the flywheel. Either way you're near enough Turbo numbers without the hefty tax bill.

I had a similar field of choice recently and went for the 991.2 GTS. Main reasons, the effortless power from low down, but smooth even torque right through and still revvy to the redline if you want. More mundane thoughts, it sits well with the eco zealots too, being the latest euro 6 category so (fingers crossed) shouldn't be affected by bans and additional charging when travelling around. Another significant point, if you want more power, it's very easy to achieve, as said above, a 'simple' remap gives 70 to 100 more bhp. Simply add a smoother mainfold and exhaust and you got a lot more; Litchfield got 616 bhp! See:

Easy:

991.2 GTS for power and performance
991.1 GTS for Fun and Performance

Both brilliant, no wrong answer but i think the 991.1 feels like a classic Porsche, with old school giggles, but the .2 is faster, but lacks something in my opinion.

I wouldn't fancy that tbf. 550bhp from a 3.0 is a lot

I have come from high powered turbo cars back into a NA car and I am thoroughly enjoying it. The 991.1 is no slouch and a peach to drive. Its the first car I have owned for a few years now that I actually want to get up early for and go for a drive.

Yes the 991.2 cars are faster and punch slightly harder early in the rev range ( especially out of a slow corner ) but thats not to say the 991.1 NA isn't quick enough. Not once have I thought I need more power on the road. I have been out on several drives with friends in 991.2 GTS cars and there is more punch in them but the NA cars do not disappoint and aren't that far behind on a road, if at all.

I came out of a 465bhp / 650 NM turbo hyper hatch and yes it was faster in a straight line, but it was boring unless you were driving at crazy speeds. Straight line blasts were fun but very short lived, as with the turbo and the huge amount of excess torque you were at the national speed limit in the blink of an eye. It just got boring for a road car.

The plus point of the 991.2 turbo cars as others have pointed out is they are far easier to tune, gaining an extra 100bhp is fairly easy and cheap if thats your game. Not that they really need it.! The NA cars can have some tweaks made and a tune but you will be lucky to get 50bhp more without large expense.

I wanted a car I could drive, not pilot. The 991.1 NA car ticks that box.

Down a B road you can exploit more of the N/A 991.1 cars capability than you can a turbo, You have the wonderful exhaust noise as the revs rise and combined together in my eyes thats the key to the enjoyment of the 991.1.

Go drive them both and see what tickles your fancy.

+ One there (and with a manual gearbox for even more fun....in my opinion)

Hello and greetings to Finland!

Here is a biased choice
:judge:

991 TT has all the other 991.1 models covered except for engine sound. What's important to you?

Yeah I've just bought one (991 turbo S) but on the gas it sounds ace! It came with a Capristo exhaust and with the valves open the car sounds fooked! I prefer the closed mode. Better still I prefered the Kline full system on my 997.2T

I actually love the sound of the stock Turbo, but when I drive behind the GT4 I cant hear anything!
My car is on finance and I don't fancy changing the exhaust, I have also found it sounds better with the windows up...I do love the pops and bangs
Is the Kline system much louder?
Post pics of your turbo when you have time.
