Hi just picked up a 993 cab tip project car for resto.
I'm working through a few things but there is very little on tinternet/YouTube to assist with a gearbox issue I may have.
My tip shifter is very vague in that it moves smoothly but I need to check Speedo RO ensure it's in correct gear etc.
Does anyone have instructions or guidance on its workings, shift cable adjustment, cleaning etc they can send or post?
I've been through a lot of post# across many forum and aware of switches/ecu checks but want to start with basics first ie shift cable adjust etc.
Hope you guys can help
Raymond

Sorry I can't be of specific help but not sure if you have checked the 993 FAQ docs available here :

http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=82579

This includes the 993 workshop manual in the technical section :thumb:

+1 for the above, oil and filter and make sure that it's not over filled. These gear boxes work on fuzzy logic. If you want to re set the box and let it learn from your driving style disconnect the battery for 15 / 20 minutes and it will forget the previous diving style and start again.

Good choice of car :thumb:

ATB :)

Thanks for responses guys appreciated. I've downloaded the both opener and tech manual now. The car has had a full engine rebuild and suspension refresh on rear as well as gearbox oil change etc. it drives very good, tight, no rattles and I'm having hood assessed tomorrow as at very least will need a rear window as well as roof aligned.
Anyways I had a look underneath and lubed everything that moves but did notice cable to box has a little bend, internally, that won't be helping near tunnel so sprayed wd40 up sleeve and coated with fine grease under boot.
Then went to shifter, tried to unscrew selector button, it was solid. Used some pliers and eventually got it off. I then again lubber everything and reinstalled but this time located button until it just got tight and went for a drive.
What a difference. Box is tighter and accurate to shift and gears are not slipping and changing brilliant. I presume that with button forced to max lock it was taking up play resulting in reduced play as if it was on verge of engaged or change. Before if you touched shifter it was going to neutral and locking out.
I will be going out tomorrow and doing around 100 miles so will update but I do feel this issue is now resolved.
I have and had a few 911's, this is replacement for my 964 Speedster sold this year, all manual but I'm mighty impressed with tip Performance and once I get the box to memorise my driving style it should improve further.
It will also be getting paddles and a remap before summer as well as new paint and maybe hood.
More to come.

Wow you really are committing some investment to this car which is great to see.

It must be an early one if it's on an L plate. How many miles?

I just had new suspension and wishbone bushes and geo reset on my 1994 cab (137k miles) and it has transformed the driving experience. Not too expensive either so highly recommend it.

There's not much to align on the roof. Either the frame works or it doesn't, it doesn't have much in the way of adjustability as far as I can see. There are a few microswitches but these are really for instructing the control module to fire up the various motors in the right sequence rather than aligning the hood. The electric hood is fairly reliable in my experience but is a pretty shonky bit of engineering and I'm always nervous about failure (which mine has a couple of times in 9 years ownership). It should really be a manual hood and the decision to make it electric is a really poor lash up of motors, cables and geared drive boxes.

Good luck with the car. If it's going to be a regular driver I'd upgrade the suspension rather than paint it. It looks fine already!

Well did 130 miles today in, around and out of Glasgow car never missed a beat. This is an honest car though has been little used but body straight. Engine was fully rebuilt and rear end suspension last year. I've already got matching front suspension, new rear lights, front tyres to match new rears so we're on our way.
Wheels being powder coated Monday, booked in for full paint mid March and new hood ready for summer and some other little along the way.
It will be weekend/Euro car and will fit in well.
Waiting on Merc doner steering wheel to arrive to fit paddles to my wheel.....hopefully.
Should look similar to this for summer

So little upgrade, roof aligned and indexed after replacing front gearbox cogs all working great if not a little slow.
Sticking with cup ones that came with car but they where badly chipped/corroded so went a little against grain colour wise and still getting used to it.
Car booked in today for new front Billy B6 to match recent rears and H&R lower springs, full geo, oil and brake fluid service.
I've been running around the countryside using tip box in std, manual and also pressing on and have noticed box is intuitive/learning how it will be driven going forward and it's noticeable just how smoother and quicker change is depending on situation on road. I really like this 4 speed box, almost like the old 930T range wise..
This car was always a short project and was purchased at a great price to do so. I've had some good luck and now car is going to paint 8th Feb so should be finished end March then on to new hood and maybe new wheels.
Really enjoying this one so far as it's going to be a keeper as it was bought to replace my 964 speedster, owned for 17 years, sold last summer so for me the archaic roof is a blessing when it rains no matter how slow.
Will post up some after pics later of new stance but here is current status.

Great to see progress and read that you're enjoying the car. Not a fan of the Weiss Gold rims but each to their own.

What colour blue are you painting the car, Riviera, Mexico, Maritime etc.?

C.

Well the strip down begins and so far no horror stories.
Think we are going bare metal as it had so much paint in past but apparently came apart amazingly well.

Welcome to the (blue) 993 cab tip club! I love mine. plenty of euro trips including multi-day alpine pass events never missed a beat even in 50-degree heat, can also drive it at 100mph all day without issue. Just had it serviced and the garage said of the test drive. 'it drives so well, you can tell it's used regularly"
On upgrades, I can highly recommend sports silencers like RSRs, and the Bergvyl HID and LED light kits.
Enjoy!

I'll just leave this here.........

It's been an uneventful couple of months but car is on final home run.

New wheels all ready to go on but originals look better than expected
