Mats: Grey is the new black!

Fellas,

Ordered some new mats for my 997 a few weeks ago at Porsche Stockport. When they arrived I queried them in the shop when collecting as they looked a little... well... grey.

Anyway a few weeks pass as I finally get round to fitting them and this is what I found. Original mat on the left...

I sent these photos to Stockport and they apologised and ordered another set. Which turned up and were exactly the same! They asked me if I could send a code on the back of my old mats so they could confirm, which I did, and they said the code was not recognised in their system. (previous mats were ordered from Porsche also). They then asked for my Vin number so they could check. However that's how they ordered the first set, but checking my vin.

Very strange that it's so hard to find the right mats and I'm starting to wonder if it's just a case of Porsche changing their supplier and that's what is turning up? The bag they came in does say black on it.

Same happened with my 997.1 GT3 mats.

Not too bothered - they still look fine - but I did wonder too.

OPC Wolves basically ordered them from the VIN no. rather than me giving them a part number.

Yep I noticed this same thing. Not fussed as in the car they are still a nice improvement over my old black mats, but seems odd to me this would pass quality control and they would still call them black...

Slightly different scenario but still involving OEM mats through OPC.

Ordered a new set for 997.1 and when they arrived the passenger side mat simply wouldn't fit. They had the correct part number but simply weren't correct. Service manager apologised and reordered. He stated it happened again recently.

Maybe there's an issue with the manufacturer of them.

Yep. Same here...Also the quality is nothing like the originals.

Those are the same colour as the ones in my Silver car they are Stone Grey not Black, and are exactly the same colour as the Stone Grey Leather

I wonder if they made a mistake at the factory by applying the wrong label to the plastic packaging? :dont know:

They change colour dependant on the way the pile catches the light.

They are more black than grey in the flesh but not as black as the ones in my 944 or 996.

Slightly OT but the only reason I ordered new mats is because somehow, the old one started getting itself stuck to the clutch pedal if you pushed it right to the floor. Not really sure the how or why, but obviously, I have enough to deal with on track, coping with my own lack of talent, without any other problems.

Just a follow up as I chased it with Porsche

Here is an email I received:

Good Afternoon,

I have spoken with Porsche and they have confirmed that we have ordered the right part number against your vehicle.
They have stated that the new mats are a different shade of black and they are no longer the shade of black as shown in the images sent by yourself.

I hope this clarification from Porsche helps ease any doubts you may have had regarding our service.

Craig

I responded by saying "Different shade of black? They are grey!"

Hi,

The carpet mats have been superseded three times; I have checked all previous numbers for availability but unfortunately there isn't any stock showing at the factory.

All I can do is apologize on behalf of Porsche and offer a refund as there are no other mats available listed for your vehicle.

Regards,
Craig

Different shade of Black :floor:

That's class!

I think Porsche must be onto something...if there's 50 Shades of Grey there's got to be a least a couple of black :)

He presumably sat there for a few mins pondering before going with that as the best option to a difficult to defend situation!
