996 aero colour choice

This is a great thread. And a nice problem to have!
Fwiw here is my tuppence.

Signal red is a bit ubiquitous and eighties on a 911.
Popping colours will work great on an aero.
Riviera, love it.
Speed yellow, love it.
That Signal Green, or a similar bright green would be my choice, teamed with thos gorgeous gold wheels with silver barrels. The green would also take some black carrera graphics well too!

Coulstar I'd say that's out the window then. Though the blood orange might be a close substitute.

Martin I can't give into ya on the red that easily :hand:

I'll have to get another look through the colour tonight. I have redone the arch so it needs primer and another rub and then I want a colour on it this week.

Here are some modern Porsche's, one in Carmine Red and one in Guards Red. To me, the Carmine is deep and grown-up, but the Guards is much more confident.

Personally, not sure it will work on a 996 as well as the air-cooled cars, or some of these:

Lava Orange ..... it's a  from me

It certainly looks good on a GT3 RS :thumb:

Thanks for the input guys.
Gh3tman you've certainly gotten into this and I appreciate that.

Me and my 10 year old boy sat down and Went through the colours tonight and that's what we both agreed on. I'll give it a go and see what it looks like on.
Mind you, if I don't get the paint ordered quick enough I'll likely change my mind :?:

Just a quick update. For a few different reasons I have decided to play it safe with guards red. Basically I painted it twice and cocked it up. First time I hadn't enough air pressure so I got another compressor, rigged the 2 up to flow enough air and I bought a low pressure devilbliss gun just to be on the safe side. Still no good.. A friend of mine is a painter so he had a look. Basically the paint was to thick. All measured to manufacturers spec but he said to forget about that. So third time almost lucky. Some issues but not bad.

I'll have to fix some of it but I'm confident now to do the rest.

This was never going to be a concours but the car is being built to be used, and used hard. A few scrapes won't be the end of the world as I can now sort it myself.

That's the plan anyway

Mate, that look awesome! I think a classic colour like guards red is always going to be a winner, plus a new skill. well done!

I always thought that the colours that were around at the time of production always suit the car well.

P.s. i'm glad you picked red, rather than green

What a result :) You don't often see Guards Red 996's but when you do they leave a real impression.

Thanks guys. Definitely a work in progress. I'll be honest, the paint problems really knocked my confidence and I lost heart in the whole thing. But I've a serious amount of time and money invested at this stage, too much to leave it lying.

It's time to get the finger out

its a skill to paint and to be able to get perfect takes practise. solid colours are a great way to learn the skills. you can flat and polish a lot of imperfections out, where as a metallic is not as easy.

I have read your other thread and you certainly aren't afraid of giving it a go.

No choice only to try really. The budget simply isn't there to pay for a top notch job.
