Hi- I'm thinking of selling my 993 as I've got a few health issues and probably won't be using it for a while- it featured in 911 & Porsche world (August 15)
There's a chap that's been wanting to buy it for a while- but the prices of RS clones seem to vary greatly-any ideas?

Sorry to hear of your ill health.

As with any 993 value will largely be determined by mileage and service history.

If you provide those details I'm sure you'll get some assistance.

Ok- 123,000
Serviced-every year from new- stamps in book for every year- mixture of main dealer and Indy's

It's quite hard to put numbers on. There are clones and there are clones. Anything from lookey likey to replica. As you say prices will vary widely. I'd love to own one but would hate to buy one...it's never going to be the real deal so it's all in the quality of the work and can that be seen and appreciated.

I would suggest speaking to a few specialists maybe. But I do think you'll probably need to do a deep dive on what's been done and present it for anyone to get a feel for the value. Maybe the magazine article does that?

Good luck and also sorry to hear poor health is potentially meaning you need to sell up.

993

Having been on the lookout for a 993 or 964 especially with RS mods I followed a few cars. A gent who was selling a 993 with new cargraphic exhaust,kw suspension and a lot of money spent on paint, new undertrays and servicing was asking £72.5 but as I was at £65 he traded it in against an 74mfi and told me 'You never get what you think it's worth!
Quite a lot of attractive 993's on the market just now and I am starting to see them readvertised with £3k or £4k knocked off the asking price.
I think the market will be quite slow just now! Not meaning to be a doommonger but just saying it as I see it

Strange you say that as I've not seen many new cars fresh on the market (manual Coupes) but agree the market generally is slowing as expected due to the current economic situation. In regard to the sale id look at Collecting cars as an option.

I think your probably right- mines got all genuine Porsche parts - so I'll just point anyone to magazine article on car as it's all there-

993

When I started looking for a car at beginning of June I counted a choice of 8 manual 2wd coupes and 4 4wd cars. I know of 2 that sold, lovely 50'000mile example at Bure Valley cars and a polar silver 80'000 mile example which was traded in against another car.
Not easy to find someone with no trade in and the cash ready to buy just now
:dont know:

If it's a genuine clone ie full RS suspension inc shock absorbers and uprights. 3.8 RS engine mine had a 9m 3.8 RS plus spec engine with 330bhp and 300 ft lbs, sunroof delete ie the only differences are the extra buttons on the dashboards and chassis nos take it to 911 Virgin.

They sold my old clone for approaching £120,000. Privately my car was worth £75-80k so massive delta. It was built by Greig at Heritage and 9m did the engine. Won 2019 best over all Porsche for a bit of fun at R21 concours without even washing Yellow Peril. Car really has the X factor in yellow.

Yellow Peril so amazing inspired me to build my own hot rod to my tastes based on a 997 i'd probably kill myself in the 993

yellow Peril

Did 911virgin buy the car from you or do they do sale or return. That's quite a difference between private and trade you quoted

SOR

Yes the devil is in the detail though re getting £120,000 and 911v sold with a full 12 month warranty and top end rebuild built into deal (as and when required). Mileage irrelevant and condition everything. We acheived that price with oil misting on through bolt 1. Was very happy as we bought the 993 privately with Tom at 911V inspecting Yellow Peril pre purchase and later when selling the buyer knew about the oil misting was a good team effort buying and selling this amazing 993. We did give the purchaser a small discount on £120k ask due to the slight misting. Bought at 90,000 miles and sold at 95,000 miles. Loved the car on Cup 2 tyres and was a bit terrified in Yellow Peril on normal road tyres as your front end turn in virtully dissappears on normal road tyres like P4 its a very different driving style required. On Cup 2 it almost feels mid engined.

Easy to make a 993 look like an RS a bit more diffiuclt to make it drive like an RS.

A good clone faithful to the RS easily worth £120,000 retail as you cant buy many of the genuine RS parts like suspension componets, shocks, uprights etc required to do the build any more. An engine to that spec nowadays I expect Colin at 9m charges up to £50k for? This one really is a clone rather than a replica. No seam welding though very much built to touring spec with a torque monster engine which dominates the experience. Fanatsic 911 I'd say probably best air cooled I've driven. Only downside was no air con. Will have another but will buy a LHD real one with a/c. Just a new roof panel from Porsche £14k nowadays and thats before labour to fit it.
