Is one exhaust tip sooted up more than the other? That's often a sign.
I doubt OPC will give you an 'option' other than a new engine as I don't believe they remedy this fault by cylinder lining etc. just throw in a new engine.
Where you based? My Indy is just about to do 'another' 997 engine with borescore. Up until the car was written off at the front end it allegedly ran as sweet as a nut. engine review highlighted something lurking :what:
Hartech will give you the definitive if you are looking for a guarantee but that will tie you into their annual maintenance plan which can be problematic if you live far away from Lancs

As others have said , are you north or south or other?, then good local indies can be recommended to perform borescope , this should cost £200 to £250 approx. Money well spent to find out exactly what the problem is .
and note , it MAY not be borescoring , could be a tensioner, knackered tandem pump , several other things !?

very good point the tandem pump does make a horrible ticking noise when its on its way out :thumb: if thats what it is D15 dont let te OPC do it for £800 or more come back on here as they are under £300 to buy :thumb:
OPC are restricted to what they can do and must use Porsche parts and Porsche accepted fixes
A good Indy will know the other fixes some cheaper, some better, some more efficient .They are not restrictd to what they can do or what they use , their specislist knowledge is invaluble and they will know work arounds and optimum fixes as there are many aftermarket parts specailly designed that are far better than the Porsche original equipment (OE)
Personally if it was my car it would be going to a highly reccomended Indy near you not to the OPC but its your car so do as you feel. if you want a good Indy near East London this is the place to get that info. :thumb: :thumb:
Whilst it is worth a try, I dare say that with 96k now and approaching 13 years old, you may struggle but if he's a Porsche "specialist" of sorts and values his reputation and he may be willing to help, so it's worth a call in to him - do it asap though, because as soon as you have anyone else fiddle about with it, it gives him room to wriggle - he must be given the opportunity to remedy first! Indeed the burden of proof does lie with the dealer, but I fear the response will likely be that if it was doing that at the point of sale, you obviously wouldn't have bought the car.

Presumably it didn't leave the factory like that, so it has to start sometime - why not in the last six months? It is a gradual process, so without the bore images, mileage and service data we cannot say when it would've started. Someone like Hartech would probably be able to make a fairly good estimate though once they've seen the state of the cylinders, so if no joy is had with the dealer then a report from Hartech would be good ammo to support a claim (assuming they say it's advanced / severe wear in excess of the time owned).
I live in East London too. Ilford area. I've used HP Motorsport specialists in Fairlop, for the last 3 years and have been great. I'd let them have a chance to diagnose for you. Prices are very reasonable there.
Picked up the 911 from OPC and an estimate of 36 hours labour plus a half block which they explained was more or less half the engine, they saiid it looks like a crankcase and piston problem. So for 36 hours labour about £6k and the half block £11600 so cost totalling about £18k but they did say this was an estimate and once stripped down they would have a better understanding of what exactly is wrong. So, called a few specialists and got a couple of estimated costs all range between £7k - £10k. Now to decide what to do . Always wanted a Porsche and got myself in to trouble. I've gave it in to a local specialist to camera check it. He will get back to me on Monday. will keep you updated.
Dam.sounds like bore scoring but porsche won't tell you that.
Hartech are the 5 star rebuild specialists and would bullet proof it for what opc would charge for essentially the same cylinders that could score again.
Theres other options like porschetorque in west london.
