Hi Henry,
Yes to all of that and I knew as I was writing it sounded like I was implying a GT3 will be pain free and easy on the wallet, which of course it may not, however the old air cooled cars I think have more chance of throwing up some nasty bills.
The 993 in question has had rocket covers and gaskets fitted but still drops oil. I'm guessing through bolts then which is a full strip to rectify.
It has the very early stages of scuttle rot on passenger side, so that's a £1k bill. This is before you start poking around at the rear chassis legs etc.
That's just info I got from a five minute telephone conversation with the salesman while he walked around the car. Who knows what else needs doing?
Well I do actually with my secret list, so yes while I know a GT3 may need dampers, rads, suspension arms etc, rot and oil leaks usually aren't an issue yet.
I don't expect to buy anything though and not have to sink £2k into it instantly. Well apart from maybe that silver Spyder with freshly extended Porsche warranty. But where's the sleepless night, big bill fun in one of those eh?
Regarding the low ball offers, yep I fully agree again but if I have a finite amount of viewing time, there's no point in wasting it at a dealers who have no interest in taking offers. If a dealer says my offer is too low but there is a chat to be had about it then I'll go. Of the 3 cars on my list now they've all said we can talk. Parr have said that about the red Mk1 too but that's too much to fit in this weekend so it's on the reserves list if my other choices fall through.
Hi Jon, yep it's exactly that. However much we have it's never enough. My wife said that tonight about houses when I was whinging on, as we are casually looking for something else.
Is that the case though, or are we all just ungrateful and never happy? :?:
I always ask the dealers if the car in question is their stock or SOR. I think they'll knock more money off it's someone else's money.
