Hi ... Now the warm weathers arrived my Air-con seems to have packed -up! Not too worried a simple re-gas should suffice, hopefully! Then I read on here a few days ago something about corroded pipes and engine out to replace

How common are corroded AC pipes? it's a 12 year old 997.1 should I bother with a re-gas, is that just wishful thinking or get it checked out by a porsche garage? How many of you guys have had a similar problem corrected with a simple fix? is there anything i should be looking for..... please tell me i just need to replace a fuse or something!

It doesn't need to be a Porsche specialist but any good garage that does air con. Just try and get some recommendations. Standard practice is to pressure test the system with nitrogen or better still with a trace gas and sniffer. The most likely cause is the condensers as they are vulnerable to all the s***e due to their location. It could just be low on gas if it hasn't been regarded for a few years which would be one of the best options for you but they also suffer from electrical issues like all A/C systems.

Thanks Matt, I saw today that Halfords will check your Air con for free & re-gas for £40... maybe I'll try them

The condensers are the usual suspects in leaking A/C but it could just be a re-gas.

Most places would charge more than £40 as the amount the 997 takes is around 850-900grams.

Personally, I wouldn't go to Halfords for an A/C recharge but that's up to you.

Best of luck with Halfords at that price it's going to be a gas and hope. The cost of R134a has gone through the roof this year and by the time you leak test, gas an empty 911 and add some UV/pag oil you are at £33 plus vat in materials alone. If you don't mind risking £40 then you may be lucky so fingers crossed for you. You may spend £40 and a couple of days later it may not work again. I do air con at work and we allow two hours for the process which includes a leak test and check the operation of the system pressures cooling performance and function of the fans. We charge a good bit more than £40 though. 😉
