Tandem pump. I changed mine, with pictures. NEW PHOTOS ADDED

As promised here are some pictures of the old vacuum pump.

This pump although it looks terrible would have carried on working up to a point.

Notice the wear (witness) marks. I have no idea how long the pump had been on the car so possibly it was there from new, ie 20 years so spending £212 or so for a new one is, in the scheme of things, cheap and money well spent.

Also remember that someone had already 'had a go' at replacing it hence all the rounded off screws. So although there are other ways of removing the pump I had to do it my way (cue music) so as to be able to drill out the screws.

In any case the worst part of the whole job was the rusty bolts on the manifold flange.

Oh wow, the inside looks in fairly good condition then? Seems that the O ring was the cause.

I checked through my service history and mine was last replaced 9 years ago. Have read another post to say that 10 years is the point where its worth changing so its quite interesting if yours was the original pump!

Thanks for sharing. So to confirm there are 2 o rings, one between the cover and the pump, second between pump and vehicle itself?

I did mine recently, without jacking the car up or removing anything apart from the pump, so it is possible, just fiddly.

I replaced the vacuum line as well as I found an old stock item on eBay.

However, I now own a scissor lift so already looking forward future jobs!

I take it you removed the bumper right? Wasnt the top left bolt on the pump a pain to remove?

The only thing I removed was the airbox, to fit the new pipe. For the tandem pump it's possible without removing anything (but yes, it is a pita)
