Supercup 08 - Race 10 # Valencia, Spain - Sean on Pole

What bad luck !

Low fuel

23.08.2008 - 18:37 Uhr

Pole sitter Seand Edwards and Jiri Janak excluded from the Qualifying result. The fuel quantity required by the regulations was not enough. Both Konrad pilots have to start into the 10th round of the year on sunday from the end of the grid.

Cancelled times: Edwards and Janak

According to the Supercup regulations in arcticle 4.12 and the supplementary bulletin 1/2008 a minimum amount of two litres fuel have to remain in the tank after the qualifying and race in order to draw a fuel sample at a special point at the fuel filter for investigation purpose. The required amount couldn't been drawn at the cars of Sean Edwards an Jiri Janak after the qualifying in Valencia.

In accordance with the regulations the DMSB technicians of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup had to report this to the stewards of the meeting, who after that cancelled all practice times of both drivers and set banish them to the end of the starting grid for the race on Sunday. "We are not really sure whether we have simply miscalculated the amount for the number of laps, or if the calculated amount wasn't filled into the tank, or if the consumption of the engine was higher, due to reasonable colder temperatures than yesterday", Konrad Motorsport engineer Konstantin Kotitsas and Franz Konrad explained.

With that the former second ranking of the session, Jeroen Bleekemolen, will start into the 10th round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup from the pole position. In addition the championship leader receives two championship points for the pole position and with that extends his lead on second ranking Damien Faulkner up to 40 points.

so watch out for fast charging Sean......car no.22

Well done Sean. Sounds like a sterling effort under the circumstances.

Cracking race Sean. You got a lot of TV coverage out of someones back window - not clear enough to see pcf.co.uk though.

Was looking forward to some podium exposure but will have to wait 2 weeks until Spa :thumb:

Jeroen Bleekemolen wins in Valencia

"Now we have to switch our party to the race in Spa, but maybe we can have a little celebration already on Saturday there", Jeroen Bleekemolen comments on the little downer after his perfect weekend with pole-position, victory and a lead of 44 points in the driver standings at Valencia. By only one point he missed to leave Spain with an early title win. With that it's easy to explain the title decision: If Damien Faulkner in Spa doesn't fetch pole position, Jeroen Bleekemolen claims the championship already on Saturday

However, his performance on the city circuit in the harbour of Valencia was already the one of a real champion. After only three laps he was in control of the race and made the 14 laps on the 5,473 kilometres long track to his personal show. He opend up the gap to the hardest pursuers, Stefan Rosina and Damien Faulkner, to more than 8 seconds. 'The base for it all was a good start and a great car", he says after the victory ceremony. 'It was a real good race with a constant good car. At the end of the race there even was no need to push any longer."

This task was taken over by Jà¶rg Hardt. The Schnabl Engineering pilot delivered a superb performance in Valencia. Started from position six, the 26-years-old could improve on fifth in the first corner already and than overtook driver by driver. In lap 10 he passed Damien Faulkner and took over second position. 'It was one of the best races in my career with one of the best setup cars in my career", he prays his team Schnabl Engineering, who's team manager Sven Schnabl gave the hounours back right away. 'Jà¶rg delivered a superb race and primarily was really strong on the breaks. A great result, what we really needed."

Behind Hardt, Faulkner fought for his last chance in the title decision. The runner-up of the last season needed third rank to prevent Bleekemolen's early title win. "It took me a long time to pass my team mate Stefan Rosina. He than let me pass by, but it was too late to set Jeroen Bleekemolen under pressure. At this time my tyres were gone already", Faulkner tells with a little disappointment in his voice. 'At least the result was good for the team standings of the championship." The fourfold Supercup champion Patrick Huisman finished on seventh position. 'A race without any problems, I am satisfied", he says. The Portuguese Pedro Petiz crossed the line on 8th rank and with that claimed his best result this season.

Also Local hero Lucas Guerrero with 9th rank had his best result so far. "I had troubles with oversteering, so it was the best I could do today" the man from Valencia describes his home race. The Top10 in Valencia where completed by the Austrian Norbert Siedler. 'I had a good start, was able to overtake some opponents and I drove reasonable lap times – I am satisfied", the Veltins-MRS pilot said.

The 11th round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup takes place from September 5th to 7th in Spa-Franchorchamps, Belgium.

Both a ***** and good weekend... Missed my flight to Valencia because my card got confiscated while trying to get cash out at the airport, so had to go to Barcelona with no card or money, get a hire car, borrow money off a mate for the toll roads and drive to Valencia, got there at 4am on Friday! :x

Practice, first lap out noticed the car was not turning right properly, finished bedding in my brakes for quali and came into the pits, the lower suspension arm had come loose and the team couldn't repair it in time, so no testing at all! :x

Quali was used as a test session on my first set of new tyres, then banged the second new set on with 8 min to go and went and beat Bleekemolens pole time by 0.004 on my first lap, headed back to pits but ran out of fuel on the way back. Rules state 2Litres must be in the tank for scruiterneering checks, they only need 100ml to check if the fuel is legal, which they got, but the rule still applies. We dismantled the whole car, whole front subframe and all suspension, brake components to get the fuel tank out and drained fuel from every last hole in the engine under close scuitiney from Porsche, but only managed 1Litres. We waited for the stewards decision, for 3 hours and the inevitable came, DQ to the back of the ***** grid. :nooo: :nooo: :x :x  Team had miscalculaed something along the way and it put both cars to the back of the grid. I had never felt so ***** in my life, after all that hard work, it had come to nothing.

Started from 26th in the race and made a great start to gain 3 odd places from the line, then carnage at T2 and I managed to get through it just, with someone knocking the rear suspension out of line a bit and I lost a lot of ground to the leading pack. Worked very hard to catch and overtake as many as possible, but with the car handling bad from the suspension damage, I could not make the top 10 and finished 12th.

Spa will be Pole, Win and Fastest Lap! :D
