Rob's seal grey C2 update thread.....

Hi all.
Not really a newbie anymore but I thought after almost 2 years of ownership an update was due.
Looking back at my original list I have done pretty well on working through my list of jobs to do. In fact I have just set up a full history file for the car (my ownership and previous) and realise I have spent £6k since I owned it - and haven't really had anything major go wrong!

Here's how it was when I bought it

And a few pics of the various jobs I have done:

Wheels refurbed and some decals (yes they are standard 18" carrera 3)

Very shiny refurbed calipers (had to be red!)

Calipers fitted and also now on eibach lowering springs - looks soooo much better in my view

I have also had the gundo hack done (lovely), just fitted new shock all round (bilstein B8), front LEDs, spacers front and back (15mm and 7mm) and fitted some twin exhaust tips from the S.

Hope these photos work.....

One more gratuitous short of our Le Mans trip in 2013 just after I for the car - I loved these Martini stripes for the 2 weeks they were on the car - proper boy racer stuff!!!

Quick update....
Fnally got round to removing the front bumper, cleaning rads out, fitting some front grills and the GT3 vent. Bit gratuitous I know but I like it.
Quite a simple diy job.
You can't see the grills in these photos but I used some standard black mesh and screwed it on from behind. Once the bumper is off it is pretty easy.

Just fitted a GT3 front smiley grill to mine, looks great !
I quite like the Martini stripes on that colour !

Hi, I love that grill, could you let me know where you can get them from and how much they are please?
thanks
Phil

The grill is a standard porsche part - from a GT3. They are on eBay and design911 sell them. Just search for "Porsche 997 gt3 vent".
Basic grill is about £50 but best to get a kit which includes fixings for about £100.
You can also get a template for cutting the bumper - essential IMHO.

Have fun!

Does the template need to be purchased seperately along with the mesh, or does it come with the kit ?

The Design 911 ad on Ebay is slightly confusing as they are showing pictures of the full kit down the page for £102 which seems a bargain if you price it all up individually.

Quick update on my progress.

The biggest "mod" of all is now complete - car went to hartech in July for a complete engine rebuild - plus every advisory they came up with!
Should be good for the foreseeable future.

I have also decided I am still not happy with suspension so car is booked in with centre gravity for a set of ohlins road and track coil overs at the start of November.
Chris franklin assures me this ie the "magic carpet" ride option. Let's hope so.

I have now spent as much on the car in last 2.5 years as I paid for it (gulp).
Best hang onto it for a while.....

Suspension porn....?

Really interested to know what the ride is like on the Ohlins. I have Eibach lowering springs and PASM which is pretty good 'budget' optionbut would like to go to coilovers later as long as the ride is still compliant as mine is a DD but I hope to also start doing the odd trackday.

Hi Rob, I think I remember you from my Boxa days. There's a few people on here from that site.

Where did you get the red seat belts? The only place I've seen them for sale is Design911.

Yes - still on boxa.net from time to time - it's a good forum.

Re the belts - I took them out myself and sent them to a place called seatbeltservices - they are based in Bedfordshire. They will rewebb in any colour and service the belts and send them back within 24 hrs - all for £50 a belt. (Note there is a different London based company with almost the same name).

I found them very good to deal with.
They are a few guides on line for removing the belts - it was pretty straightforward.

It was quite a nice diy project - should be easy job for a man of your skills!

Will do. Although if I had pasm I probably wouldn't be doing this....

If you have PASM and want to upgrade your suspension you should look at Bilstein Damptronics. B16. If you feel they are too track orientated then they do some for fast road etc. B6 and B8, they work with PASM so you will still have that function.

Great looking car and some nice mods.

What forced the rebuild?
