Re:- Cabriolet hood black metal edging trim

Hello
Does anyone know if the black metal edging trim on a cabriolet hood can be restored/refinished.
I have surface damage on both sides on the pieces above the rear windows.. I would guess from the hardtop being left on for extended periods..Looks like it would be a common issue both side have got the problem in the sane place.
I believe replacement parts are circa £285 per side so I'd rather be restoring than replacing if possible

Thanks
Johnny

They're plastic, not metal.

996 are plastic.

My 2004 C4S looks too be metal where I have marks. I think it's metal. Perhaps 996.2's got metal when Porsche made the switch also to a glass window. I'll double check when I get it back from the body shop.

I have a 997.1 and the trims are metal.

My 98 ones look and feel plastic. I can only assume they have some sort of plastic bobbly, non smooth coating on them.

I wonder if the damaged areas could be gently sanded flat a little with a Dremmel and some sort of black Plastikote touched up on the area?

Certainly worth a shot for a tenner.
