Hi Everyone

Like many others, I have a little more free time on my hands at the moment so seems as good a time as ever to say hello and introduce myself.

I am Berkshire based and after spending over a decade pontificating over a 997 purchase I bought one last August having sold my Daily ('12 A6 Avant Quattro) and my Toy (Hugely missed 04 TVR T350T) in a bid to buy a house which eventually fell through on day of exchange back in November.

I saw this car up for sale for Circa £25K which at the time seemed a little cheap but I really like the spec and colour. In reality I broke all my own rules, bought the car unseen, although did have a mate go take a quick look. Didn't buy from a specialist and in reality the car was average in terms of condition but I figured if it was something I would keep for a while I wouldn't mind a triggers broom car and lets face it they all need stuff doing to keep them nice.

They car is an 06 and I checked the engine numbers to make sure it had the later IMS bearing. It also had a Bore Scope report so I figured that ruled out two of the larger risk items.

After the house sale fell through I didn't actually have room for the car at home and was rolling about in an old but absolutely mint 1 owner XJ8. The car went to my friend (Detail My Car, Newbury) for storage and a detail. At this point he suggested I get some paint done if I wanted it mint. It wasn't in bad condition by any means but my conversations spiralled and some months later it had had front and rear bumpers and wings resprayed. Yes its no longer on original paint but it looks great and I love to drive my cars often with friends in convoy so they never stay mint. After fresh paint came the detail it was originally booked in for and then the decision to PPF the painted areas to protect them. At this point I also chose to have a larger rear protection area extend above the standard area in front of the rear wheels. That was done by another friend at Auto Curators.

Now it was time to service car, change tyres, mats, rubbers, all the easy stuff that makes a difference. That was nerv racking as I spent thousands on the paint when I should have put it on the ramp first. Broke all my own rules again.

Service was completed without an issue and it was confirmed the car was not a lemon. I have however done a few bits since then in a bid to make it a really nice car. List as follows so far, anything without a date has not been booked in yet.

Excluding tax and Insurance Ive spent about £7K so far and done 3.5K miles.
To put that into perspective I bought my TVR at the top of the market from the best trade seller and that car cost me on average about £300 for each year I had it. It ran like a Swiss watch and whilst I didn't drive it daily I drove it very hard when it did come out, notable all day 400+ mile horns around Wales.

Anyway, nice to meet you all.

:bye:

hey welcome to the forum, MilkyTop. I too share your love of blackpool rock, mine doesn't have a roof, and I got mine near the bottom of the curve, more by good luck than judgement. This is a great forum, very friendly and full of useful advice. :thumb:

Great cars when they are in fine fettle. Like nothing else. Well done for keeping one going.

MilkyTop - most importantly do you like the car??

Yes I love it even though its not perfect and still needs things doing for me to be 100% happy.

It doesn't have the sense of occasion that my TVR offered but not a lot does. The trade off is I can do local mundane daily journeys in the 911.

I haven't had it on track yet but did do some hard/fun miles around Wales a few weeks ago and really to to know the car better and its handling characteristics. In dry weather the grip is like witchcraft, It feels like I am almost putting the power on still in the entry phase of a corner. Very enjoyable learning it. The light floaty front end isn't very confidence inspiring but after a day of high speed cornering I know to trust it now. I will get a load of grief for this I know but I found the front end on my E92 M3 Comp better even though its a bit of a whale in comparison.

Things that will need doing to improve the experience are apple car play, a new engine mount, a clutch and possible a gearbox replacement in the future as it graucnhes going into 5th when cold and it annoys me.
