Thanks.

Hopefully whatever damage there is will be minimal and made good without too much drama.

I'm looking forward to getting it done and polished up. I think the wheels will work better with the original black paint.

I've got some 7mm spacers coming to push the front out just a little bit. These wheels naturally sit just under 4mm further out than the previous wheels, plus they had a 15mm spacer, so 7mm with these wheels should look just about right, although 11mm would have put them around the same outer position as the original wheels.

The spacers on the back mean that the rear track is greater then the front, which is opposite to the standard setup. I'm not sure if that will make any real-world difference to the handling.

I considered going without spacers but I can't quite get over the wheels looking tucked. This does introduce potential scrub radius issues but it should be minimal. The rear have 18mm spacers but I might swap them for the 15mm that I removed from the front, although they fill the wheel arch nicely.

I actually found a pair of original Porsche spacers online and grabbed them without thinking. When I took the wheel off to put the spacers on it dawned on me that I've got the RS brakes and hubs on there... So, if anyone in the EU needs a pair of 5mm genuine Porsche spacers... :floor:

Operation 'back to black' has commenced!

Some paint lifted from some parts while removing the wrap, which was not unexpected, so it's off to the paint shop now for some touch ups and for the bonnet to be repainted. It looked excellent underneath the wrap with no visible rust issues at all, so it looks like the work was done to the standard I had been told by the last owner, although the front edge of the passenger door has had a scrape that I guess happened when it was all put back together and the wrap was simply put on it rather than fixing it.

Whoever wrapped it had not considered removal at all - the rear bumper had been wrapped while removed and they then riveted through the wrap... helpful... The rather large exhaust also seems a bit high as it seems to have burned the finish on the bottom of the bumper.

As he had owned it for 9 years in total and for 4 years after having it repainted I was expecting the work to have been done correctly.

The oil lines along the sills all appeared to be very good as well and it seems generally excellent under the skin.

I think the wheels work better with the black bodywork and it could be my eyes but I don't think the front wheel seem quite so tucked as they appeared with the green colour.

After a bit of a delay due to the paint guy getting ill it was finally back with the detailer this week and I've just received confirmation that it's all done! Typically, it's raining today, so I've decided to collect it tomorrow. Hopefully it will look as good in person as it does in the pictures. I've missed it...

I've no idea why a couple of photos are rotated - they aren't like that on my phone...

I tried the original black trim rings and I think the lights look better like that.

Added a badge to the back. It's not what's supposed to be there but I like it. I've also got the PORSCHE letters that I was going to put on the bottom of the engine lid but with Porsche already on the rear reflector and registration plate I thought it might be a bit much so I've left it for the time being.

After the car was cleaned I discovered that the exhaust tip is from TechArt - I thought it looked a touch bigger than standard.

I'm considering some seats and a subtly different rear spoiler at the moment but other than that I am very happy with the car. It seems to be running well and is a lot of fun to drive. I thought that I'd want to change the blacked out indicators and repeaters after getting the car back to black but I'm quite liking the look.

I've spent some time chasing a quickly driven 912 and a Carrera RS that gets properly spanked on the country roads here, along with some newer cars, and my car seems to account for itself very well. Last weekend was the first time I've really gone for the redline and it sounded great and really pulled harder over 5,000 rpm. I also discovered that the ABS works - they way it works really took me back in time... It's such a lot of fun to drive and I've connected with this car in a way that I never did with the 991.2 GTS.

Kind of liked the green if Im honest but it does look good. Still not sure on those headlights.
I liked the green as well, as did my girlfriend, but it was a wrap that was put on shortly after the car was painted and I wanted to be able to see when any rust appeared and also to verify what the car was like.

I like the black and it gets far more of a glossy appearance than the wrap did, plus I think the wheels work better with the black paint. With the green I think I preferred the Cup 1 wheels.

I like the lights and I particularly like them at night. Lighting technology and performance have moved on a vast amount since the 80s/90s and the performance and therefore the ability to enjoy the car when it's dark is enhanced.

I think they look better with the black trim rings and the detail in them when you see them in person is very nice. Appearance and styling are a subjective matter of course, but the performance compared to the original lights is not subjective. The nice thing is that they fit with no modifications, so they can be unplugged and the originals plugged back in if that's required in the future. It's the same with all modifications that have been made - easily reversed.

Thanks for sharing - love the car and the hound :)

The chrome headlight surrounds never looked quite right to my eye, so I'm pleased to see you've changed them.

Thanks!

I liked the idea of the chrome but in reality and combined with the chrome projectors it didn't quite look right. I much prefer the lights with the black trim rings and it's handy that they fit over the lights. I'm not convinced they will stay in place so I've got some thin double-sided tape at the ready for that professional finish... :floor:

Bloody hell, the oil really does come out fast! That was fun to clean up...
