Looks amazing in dark blue :thumb:

Thanks my friend! :)

Needs a single stage polish and ceramic coating... I love a bit of DIY detailing!

What to we think about possibly changing to gold colour wheels? :dont know:

Weissgold wheels against dark blue metallic, what's not to like?

Congrats @TonyC911, that looks lovely, a nice upgrade indeed.

Keen to see some interior shots too, if you wouldn't mind sharing (PM if you'd rather not reply on the thread) what kind of price reduction did this have from the original listing? Also what were South Lakes like to deal with as an OPC?

Thanks, I spotted the car when it was listed at £75k, which I thought was pretty good for an OPC, especially when you factor in £2,125 for 2 years warranty and assistance. I initially spoke to them when it dropped to £73k. Sadly I couldn't make the p/ex work at the time, but when they dropped it to £70k, I felt it was too good to miss! I think I got very lucky on the timing as they admitted it was time to move the car on, which they had previously supplied twice and taken in p/ex.

Porsche South Lakes were great to deal with and very accommodating, including a memorable unveiling and handover in the showroom.

Photo's of interior below.

Wow that looks stunning and thanks for sharing the details about the price drop. Sounds a bit like my experience trying to buy a Cayenne Turbo earlier this year, they wouldn't budge (Newcastle) but ended up dropping the price twice, the last drop I saw was actually even lower than I had originally offered! Not sure if it actually sold or ended up back in the dealer network somewhere else as I've seen that happen too!

Anyway, glad that didn't happen otherwise I wouldn't be looking for a 911 right now!

Hi,
Really nice car, me and the Mrs looked at it and beginning of July and took it for a test run but in the end decided against it. enjoy your ownership

Dean

Congrats Tony,

that's a stunning looking car and the grey interior looks pristine.

Very nice - enjoy in good health :thumb:

Hi Tony,

The 991 feels very different to my previous 997. It is definitely roomier inside, which is welcome as I'm tall, I'm a fair bit more comfortable in it. Long journeys should be more enjoyable as the 991 is significantly quieter inside at motorway speeds.

It also feels more planted than the 997, although I expect this feeling might change a bit in the wet as my 997 was a C4S. It certainly doesn't feel as analogue as my 997. A large part of this is that the new car is PDK and my old one a manual. The steering is also much lighter in the 991. These seem to be both a good and a bad thing, depending on the mood I'm in when driving.

I expect that there will be days when I yearn for the old school feeling of the 997. This said though, the PDK box is amazing and there is a lot of fun to be had sticking it in manual and using the paddles on a spirited drive.

I'm really pleased that I was brave and went for guards red. Having only ever really had black, silver and grey cars, going for red was a bit out of character. But I'm glad I did, I've had a lot of positive comments in the short time I've owned the car. It's away at the moment having ceramic coating and PPF applied, so hopefully it will continue looking good.

So I guess in summary. I think the 991 is much better car, but a part of me really misses the raw and analogue nature of the 997.

Indeed, gold or satin bronze would look amazing!

IanC, I smiled when you mentioned "analogue" feel of your previous 997 to the feel of your 991... I suspect relativity plays a part in our assessments...
:?: :)

For me analogue in Porsche terms kinda ends around the introduction of the 3.2 Carrera`s digitally controlled fuelling taking over from the analogue fuelling and control of the 911SC, which it`s self took over from the mechanical fuel injection of the earlier 911`s of the 60`s which before that were fuelled by carbs..

On a more basic level, at least the 997 had an engine that was visible when the lid was lifted, unlike that which is under the lid of the 991-on 911 derivatives. :)

There is no stopping evolution.... much as I tried... :floor:

I agree! I think a discussion with Chris @Exel next year is highly likely :thumb:

The centre lock wheels look amazing, but the removal process is not really a DIY job I would want to attempt. Hopefully the home use torque gun's will come down to a more affordable price, in the near future.

Neodyme is the latest gold that Porsche use for wheels, prior to that it's Satin Aurum. Both look fantastic, with Neodyme being a little bit darker. I have Aurum on a white car and looks awesome IMHO!

I used The Wheel Specialist in Farnborough (they are all over) and they did an excellent job. Centre locks is not a problem for them. All done in under 24 hours and approx £200 which I thought was a bargain and transforms the car.

I've used The Wheel Specialist before (the original branch in Birmingham) just before they started their franchise operation - they were a good outfit back then but there are lots more players in the market now.

I used these guys when I went Satin Bronze on my X6 M - the-autowerks.com, looking at some of their instagram posts I believe they have the Porsche Centre Lock tool / adaptor too.

I've heard good stuff about Exel, I believe that's who MR Sportscars use for their cars. Where are Exel based, is it Hertfordshire?

Exel --> https://www.exelwheels.co.uk/

are regularly recommended on 911uk and will come to you with loan wheels whilst yours are being done.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure that Tony has used Exel before and was suitably impressed.

Thanks, yes I found the link but couldn't immediately see where they were based.

Found this on their site:

In most cases we come to you, but if you prefer you can visit us or arrange to meet us which saves our travel and fuel costs meaning we can pass on the savings. exelwheels operates from bases in Lincolnshire and London we cover all areas in England, and provide additional courier services for customers further afield.

However given the way they work and the option of loan wheels I guess it doesn't matter at all where they are. I like the sound of their service, definitely one I'd consider using.

Thanks both!

Removing and re-fitting the centrelocks is a more involved process than I had first imagined. As a result, I would want to be satisfied that anyone working on these key components, is following the correct procedure!

As T8 mentioned, I have used Chris @Exel twice before and frankly I would gladly give him my business every time! I just need to check how he would deal with my wheels.

Lovely colour and looks great. Enjoy.
