Dash Backlight Bulb Replacement

Hi folks,

The bulb behind my oil pressure gauge appears to have gone (see pic). It was coming on sporadically with the other lights, but now not at all. All other gauges seem to light up fine, and the needle itself is also illuminated.

My questions are, how easy is it to repace a single bulb? Or do I need to do the whole lot? And what bulb do I need? Is this something I could do myself? (I am not mechanically proficient, but I can follow a guide if it's straightforward and there's low danger of destroying it!).

Thanks.

So, just to update this thread in case anyone else has the same issue...

I contacted local OPC to ask about the bulb needed and they told me that the instrument cluster on these is basically a sealed unit and the bulb can't be replaced, only the whole unit!

A new instrument cluster for my car will be £4,591 (not sure if that includes the work to fit or not). So I guess I'll be living with it, annoying as it is. Perhaps I'll have a look around for a used unit. I'm glad it's not one of the more important dials.

On an old episode of wheeler dealers where they had the lcd unit of an Audi TT repaired, they took it to a place who specialised in Auto electronic repairs. It may be worth having a looksie on the internet to see if there is still such a company in existence. I am sure there will be

I had a dodgy rev counter (working intermittently / sometime reading half engine revs) and I sent it off to Autotronics (0116 276 7054). They fixed the cluster within a few days and sent it back to me. All in, I think it cost around £150. I'd give them a call and see what they can offer.

I did try another (more local) company first, but they had the cluster for two weeks before deciding they couldn't do anything for me.

Thanks for this guys, definitely worth a look. I suppose I am just a bit nervous of sending such an integral (not to mention expensive) part off to some company to poke around with!

I will have a look at Autotronics, thanks for the recommendation.
