944 turbo

Who did the inspection? I only ask because they described it as in Time Warp condition which is very long way from what your eyes revealed...

...bloody car dealers IMA...fortunately you can afford to take care of it

Sean from McMillan on the sales side got her up on the ramp and had a look at her for me as there were a few tell tale signs in the pics tbh I only have myself to blame. I should have gone independent and I did speak to Peter Morgan and they said they'd recommend McMillan for Porsche inspections in NI so felt safe. Porsche Belfast couldn't look at her till March unfortunately. Fingers crossed the rot once we get outer sill covers off not too bad. I'm looking forward to this

...the car is in safe hands and tbh the journey is often as good as the destination...

...good luck

The truth is unless they've been stored correctly they invariably all do need structural work etc etc if you start digging you will find it

I know you've made your mind up and seem to have the knowledge and the means to sort it but would you not have any recourse with the seller..you do have more rights as a remote sale than if you had viewed the car in person.. The car has been sold presumably for top retail money is clearly not 'pristine' as described..

Another one due to go live soon.

I agree if the rot is too bad and too far gone I'll 100% flat bed the car back to McMillan. Not cricket for sure. I've let Sean know my disappointment at his very average description. I suppose from his perspective he knows I wouldn't have bought the car if he'd played with a straight bat. It's a disingenuous description at best if anyone knows their way around a 944 in my view. Who knows perhaps he doesn't? I've not seen her on a ramp yet. Will know soon. Fingers crossed she's not too far gone and you're right it should be backed in a perfect world but i really want a pre cat 250 944 turbo.

Very kind offer received from McMillan/Sean and current owner to take the car back and unwind the deal if I am not happy. Have till Monday to decide - thats how its done :worship: :thumb:

Decisions descions. When I was looking for mine, I searched on the basis that as long as there wasn't rust, everything else was fixable.

Agreed but at a price.

The low mileage ones all inevitably need work, which kinda negates the premium you've inevitably paid for the low mileage.

I ended up buying one that had very much lived its full life but had been the recipient of a full nut and bolt rebuild at the previous owners expense. I know everything has been attended too and other than the odd minor gremlin it's proved to be totally reliable.

I was tempted to bid on this though for a bit of fun.

I'd be tempted to get them to have the major works rectified and have the car to how it was advertised, you know the car now and as was mentioned they all require some work, they weren't sought after a decade ago so weren't mothballed like some cars were that had some value to them?

I've left 911 Virgin to make an executive decision re keep or return as I'm simply not qualified on rust around the inner chassis areas to make a value judgement on these whether this one is worth bringing up to street concours. Also other than showing signs of rust nr seat belt mounting points there has been a previous poor repair on NS inner front wing. According to Tom this one will never really be more than a 9/10. Genuinely my 997 a 10/10 post PCO. You'd not be able to fault Minty on an inspection better than factory IMO. Rust was never really an issue 996 onwards like the real classics. I've not seen a good 944 turbo other than this baltic blue one at R21 last year which really got my juices reignited on having another 944 turbo. Completely original patina this one and a genuine minter complete credit to its owner. This is what I thought similar to what I was buying TBH. Perhaps naively as there can not be many 944 in the condition of this baltic blue belter.

Also what adds to the conundrum this alpine pre cat 250 944 turbo genuinely is a low mileage, amazing interior condition, and only 2 owner 944 turbo. Resto costs I imagine will be in he region of £25k + via PCO, Reading for structural and 911 Virgin's new workshop for mechanicals, 9e for TracTive chassis and Evergreen turbo upgrade & tune. What we don't want is to repair the rust and it returns which is entirely possible if the rot not treated and sorted properly. Not cheap this work either.

On the positive there is no classic 911 I know would be able to live with this once completed with work above on road or track. :hand:

944 turbo look so cool and well proportioned in 2023 too compared to the SUV size hatchbacks i.e. basically every 2023 car nowadays TBH. If I was buying a car today better off buying a Purosangue or Cayenne as every car the same size as these behemoths nowadays with identical wheel arch designs. Ruins 992 for me the SUV wheel arch and digital interior similar to so many other 2023 VWs.

...you are talking yourself into buying...low mileage, lovely condition interior...sounds like a keeper...only because you are in the fortunate position to sort properly...we only live once...

...hopefully the rust isn't too bad?

Ha fingers crossed. Good to have someone around you who knows these old beasts to keep my feet firmly on the ground. Also v.nice that McMillan have kindly give me an exit if 911 Virgin feel its too much work on the rust side. I'm always half glass full. Tom is always half glass...which is v.good by the way as I'm signing the cheques!

Just up at Porsche Reading with Porsche Central Operations. They're very interested in helping with the 944 turbo if we go ahead with restoration. Lots of front engined love up here - seen loads of 924 and 944 whenever I'm up here actually
