Ive seen a very (I mean almost nil) mileage 996 C2 Targa in Forest Green with grey leather interior. One owner, who just did a few rides and kept it garaged. Pretty standard spec 2002 car. It's 25k but it looks absolutely spotless.

I'm not worried about the colour as I like it and think that with the grey interior it looks nice, I'm also not too fussed about resale values.

I do 15k a year driving, so I don't want a high miler.

Honest opinions please, I'm really considering this car!

I would never buy a 911 that isn't used regularly, they dont like being sat around!

I learned this the hard way, bought a 996 C2 from a guy who cleaned it more than he drove it, found out it needed a fair bit of work to make it a daily driver again, 8 grand and 1 month later it was as reliable as any other car, never let me down (apart from the time the OPC let the YTS boy change the alternator and he didnt put it back on again properly)

I would buy a daily driven well maintained mega high miler and just use it as it is meant to be used.

mileage is 3k!! - I would consider negotiating a bit and with any saving, having a ceramic IMS bearing upgrade. - Then Id feel I was driving a car that I trusted and was really as good as new.

If its only 3000 miles in over 10 years - there must have been years when it wasnt even touched.

That cant be a good thing.

You should get it inspected (you could include it in the negotiating price) - at least you will then have peace of mind!

Mileage is a strange thing. If this was a 993 price would be double one of average mileage/condition. With 996 other than stellar miles it is not so relevant. Go off condition and consider mileage based on what may need doing in the future.

That car must have been in storage for quite some time :dont know: which personally doesn't bother me. If it hasn't then it implies short trips where not everyting has had a time to warm up and therefore more wear.

Would I buy it? If I wanted a 996 C2 targa, the inspection proved good and I accepted the depreciation this will take (high price now and your mileage will bring it in to the 'average' category in a few years) then yes. Otherwise I'd go for a C4S

It depends on how much the depreciation will matter to you. At 15k a year as mentioned above you will soon bring the miles up, the depreciation if/when you come to resell will be horrendous.

In your position I'd be going for a 100k car at somewhere between £10k - £13k. You could run it for 3 or 4 years and scrap it for less than the depreciation you will suffer on that.

Forgot to say, I have a 200 C2 cab already and its now in its mid 90k miles, thats why the change consideration. I bought that with 40k and have added 50k in the last 3 years. If I do another 3 years and 50k I feel it wont be worth much either.

Also, im curious what sort of inspection would be useful to me and what would it cost. I kind of feel when inspected they are just going to say it looks like a new car (which it does)

What makes it worth £25k?

A 2002 car with below average mileage would normally retail at around £18k. The fact that it's in a less than desirable colour combo and a Targa would knock £1k off that.

As a collectors item I suppose it might be worth the extra £8k to someone but as soon as any mileage is put on it the value will plummet.

If you are considering doing 15k miles a year I'd look at (a) something newer than 11 years old and (b) something that's used to being driven.

For £25k you'd get a nice, below average mileage, 997 maybe 3 or 4 years newer.

Sorry. Good luck :thumb:

Ive looked at 997 targas but the ones i like seem to be high mileage.

perhaps I will consider spending the extra few k and expect to get it back at the other end.

It does appear slightly over priced, even if it is a brand new 911 for 1/3 of its new price.

The problem is that everything will have dried out - bushes, bearings, suspension parts.

If it has been sat in a garage with any moisture then its also going to need discs, pads, condensers, rads, hoses, roof seals etc.

In my opinion it would certainly need an ims doing pronto. The vast majority of failures we know about are in lower mileage cars like this.

So, if all this can be inspected and given a clean bill of health, and you want a brand spanking new 996 to reduce in value to £13k in 3 years then go for it!

For that money I would by a turbo, put as many miles on it as you want and it will still be worth £20k, as they all are!! :thumb:

Sorry but I wouldn't touch it - it's been sat around for the best part of 10 years +. I'd buy a properly sorted and looked after turbo.

This car sounds more like its made for Tikkathree who could cherish it, not put too many miles on it, and not suffer so much depreciation.

There's so much irony in this post that it's in danger of rusting up :floor:
