Windscreen seal melted?

Has anyone had a problem with the windscreen seal on a 992 melting? The seal that is attached to the glass has effectively melted (for want of a better word) and turned into tar. OPC is looking into it but in the meantime any else had a problem and the screen replaced under warranty?

It is well documented in the USA with a TSB notice and a new screens being replaced under warranty.

Thanks

There is a recall for cars with the lightweight glass fitted, mines booked in next month to check the bonding and if it fails then both front and rear screens need to be replaced.

Mine has turned in to sticky tar too, dealer said seals weren't covered under warranty. I'm interested how you get on

Mine was in yesterday for the recall check of the screen seals, no issues found and the dealer stated that all of the cars that they had back in passed the “soapy water” test.

Hi, mine has the same issue took it back to dealer I purchased it from, they said the same, asked what liquid I use to wash it. I provided the US recalls and the European recall, and asked for a letter saying that the safety recall does not apply to this car and the seal in this condition will not lead to incorrect deployment of the airbags. Funnily enough I had a call back a couple of weeks later saying that Porsche had acknowledged the issue and the windscreen was going to be replaced. So happy with that result. I haven’t actually checked the rear screen but apparently can have the same issue.

Are they making Porkers with chocolate off recently? It’s shameful to have these issues with built quality 🤨

My 2019 C2S cab also has this as an issue. I bought it 3 months ago from Porsche Exeter with warranty and will report back on how they handle it.

Took vehicle into Porsche Chester yesterday and they’ve said screen needs to come out, old bonding material removed and screen re-bonded. BUT not covered by Porsche warranty and high likelihood that the screen may break when its removed. Have asked supplying dealership for their comments given it must’ve been like this when I bought it.

If it's a known problem, and your car has a warranty, I don't see how they can wriggle out of that.

Well they have tried to wriggle out of it… Porsche Exeter responded as follows :- “I have spoken to our used car manager, George, today regarding the issue with the windscreen seal. He has checked the 111 point inspection prior to sale and nothing was noted at the time to suggest a fault with the seal. As such, he has advised he would not pay for this repair after 6 months into ownership.”
Fact is I bought it 4 months ago and they were informed there was a potential issue (in writing) on 27 August!
So will write a response to this email when I’ve calmed down a bit!

Please escalate to the principal ( Kevin).
Dealership will try getting out of issues..

Not a positive response from Porsche Exeter at all.
This seal has failed because of a Porsche technical issue so should be replaced under warranty.

Porsche Exeter are useless. Leave a Google review, that's what I did when they scratched my console replacing the shifter. They have it too easy in the South West and treat customers like cr@p.
Porsche Chester have just replaced my screen under warranty. Next time buy from a dealer that cares.
