Folks,

Will a Porsche 996 deteriorate much if left outside all year?

My car is an every day runner, 67,000 miles, A1 condition.

It is not a prized museum piece, but kept in tip top order nonetheless.

I've a notion for an additional purchase that would mean the 996 is kicked out of the garage onto the driveway.

Am I likely to notice anything in terms of the 996's condition?

I have heard that a garage is not even the best place for an every day runner car anyway, as garaging a wet car means the damp cannot escape the confines of the building.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Cheers!

Although I have a garage mine has lived outside for the last 2.5 years that I've owned it (the previous owner also kept it outside on his drive) and it doesn't appear to of hurt it in any way. The paintwork requires more cleaning but other than that nothing. Rads all look good still, the underside is also as good as it was when I bought it.

Mine's a daily runner too and left more outside than in the garage (always needs de-cluttering)

Kept clean and tidy it shouldn't be a real problem... what's that phrase... better out than in. :thumb:

mine has lived outside for the past 2 years I have owned him. I did put the hardtop on last november and havent taken it off so far as the garage is chocka but it will come off in the next couple of weeks.....as someone else has said apart from cleaning more often I havent noticed any other problems and it is used weekly for a good run .not a daily car

Mine lives outside and has done for 3 1/2 years. I do clean off the vulture poo occasionally and give it the brishy-brushy car wash every two months. It has never seen a lambswool mitt.

It looks fine, and when, goaded by all the talk around here, I pulled up the sill covers I found lots of water and only the tiniest bit of rust. Which will soon be Kured.

whoops  skim reading again. :wack:

The only real difference is the amount of UV cars take when outside every day. You notice it in the external window rubbers/trim, and interior where the sun beats in. Paintwork these days can take a great deal of punishment.

Is it red? (I bet you said in the first posts didn't you? )

In the summer give it two coats of Collinite 476. When winter comes it will be fully protected and get clean quickly a snow foam and lance will bring it up a treat. :thumb:

Snap (daily driver, 67,000 miles, great condition and kept in top order). Mine has lived outside for the majority of the last 3+ years, mainly because I use it every day and can't be bothered moving cars (and numerous multi-coloured council recycling bins) around every morning and night getting it in and out of the garage.

Should do it no harm at all as long as you are actually using it and it won't be just stood in the rain for months on end (although you will have to clean it a lot more often if it's permanently outside).

Mine lived on the drive for over 3 years and was fine always started on the button 911's are very hardy as long as you take them out for regular runs :thumb: the garage was saved for a classic with smaller doors.
