Just gone over to Conti Sport Contact 2 N2s myself from PZeros on the recommendation of JZM. Much quieter tyre on the road, but how they would stand up to trackday use I don't know.

Dan, a word to the wise, my 993 had Conti/Sport Contact 2. After I sold it, an OPC told the new owner that they were invalid because they were'nt the N2 version. It seems if it dont say 'N' then it may invalidate Insurance and the like!!

I also know a place to get the Pilot Sports N1 at about 50 squid a tyre cheaper, including vat and fitting just over the Dartford bridge off the M25. Thats the bootees I'm going for when mine are worn

Have had both Toyo Proxes T1-S and PZero Rossos on my 3.2 and 964 respectively. Was very happy with both, Toyos prob slightly better in the wet and PZero in the dry. I would steer clear of the Contis personally as they aren't great on-track. They are the 'comfort', they tend wear well though.

People have sworn by the Bridgestone SO2 for ages - a really good all-round tyre and holds up well on-track. Personally they would be my choice, but the design is a little old.

I am happy with my Conti SpContact 2's on 18's. Very good in both wet and dry, and apparently they last well. I am going to be using my 17" wheels which came with dunlops for any track work though. I got them fitted at
http://www.elite-design.co.uk/frameset3.html
and had a 4 wheel alignment done at the same time. Very happy with the service, not a mark on my alloys.

Depends on what you're after really.

My car had conti on it when I first got it, not too keen myself but probably because it was old tyres as well, so the rubber weren't exactly fresh.

Then went to P-zero, fantastic on the dry, a bit nervous on the wet. After that I tried SO-2 'cos a lot of people seem to love it. Reasonably good dry and wet, wears well too, but it wasn't untill I went back to P-zero that I found P-0 to have much better dry grip, more responsive and sharper steering.

Down side is that it wears a lot faster, and wet grip is iffy. I also heard that quality control isn't great with P-0, so you might need lumps of lead to balance the wheels or something.

The Assimetrical rear + Unidirectional front combo is to improve wet grip, but Assim F+R will give better dry grip. Rosso is better on wet than the old P-0 but less dry grip. Can't rememmber where I saw this bit of info from though.

For me, I nly manage to get enough courage to push the car on the dry, and track, so I'llstick to P-0, will try Assim F+R next time round.

P-zero Assymetricos all around or Rossos all around... Assymetricos are stickier, but do not last as long. Rossos last longer and slightly better in the wet, but not as grippy.

I'm running Directionales in front with Assymetricos in the rear (P-Zero System)... excellent combo, very happy, but I am tempted to try the Rossos on all 4 next time around... or switch to the Mich PS2s...(good deal at Costco!)

Sorry to butt in! Just wanted to get your opionions on Michelins - my 997 came with them as standard. I am finding them OK - but I am stlll running my car in - haven't even taken a nice corner yet if you know what I mean : )

My 996 came with P Zero's. They were great but compared to the Michi's they were seriously LOUD. I couldn't hear myself think on some of the roads!

P-zero Assymetricos n3 all around - was using kumho 712's which were fine and very cheap but not n rated

My 2p's re the P Zero's - as they are designed to "run flat" they are rather hard in the sidewalls - with bigger wheels/lowered sus tramlining can be an issue.

Dont ask me how i know.............................

Never knew P-0 were run flat, are you sure???

i had never thought about it either- but in my attempts to get ride of my tramlining, my garage sent me on my way with that explanation.

After a bit of thought the name gives it away really! p -Zero....................

Plus when i switch to winter tyres(michelin) the tramlining is certainly reduced......

Learn something new everyday, I'd thought Pirelli would advertise the run flat property a bit more!

Migration info. Legacy thread was 29747

perhaps they dont want to becasue it causes tramlining................

I seriously doubt that P-0s are run flat. In order for a tyre to be marketed as run-flat, they would have to go through an awful lot of regulatory testing to demonstrate and prove that they are capable of passing tests as a run-flat tyre.

In these days of legislative control, it would be foolhardy for any of us to believe for a moment that P-0s are run flat without having conclusive evidence from the manufacturer.

P-0s may have stiff sidewalls (just as many other tyres) to improve turn-in, but this doesn't make them Run-Flat by any stretch of the imagination.
