Where's the queue for civil unrest?

I love this bit

It says drivers will face six months in jail and a hefty fine if they tamper with 'spy-in-the-car' tracking devices - most likely an electronic 'tag' on the window.
Road toll officials will be given unprecedented stop-and- search powers to enter vehicles to check the devices have not been tampered with.
But drivers who remonstrate with, or obstruct, the officials face up to six months in prison. So too does anyone who causes or permits the registration plate to be obscured or uses false Documents to avoid paying the fine.

Not enough room in our jails for the paedo's and other undesirables but hey the motorists deserve to rot in hell.

LOL- Reading is listed as a place they are going to introduce road tolls!

Like I needed another excuse to never go into Reading again.

Is it me or is the whole thing a bit flawed?- congestion occurs at peak times because that happens to be when people are going to work, or dropping kids off at school. Congestion charging will not change that, just increase costs, because school and business hours remain static. You can't change peoples behaviour in this respect because it is not a voluntary decision.

its brilliant that the ppl who'll introduce these types of taxes are more than likely the ppl who don't need/use a car of their own,so don't realise the true cost of motoring as its paid for them or subsidised via travelling expenses, remember 2 jags using his ministerial car to transport Mrs 2-jags 500yds from 1 hotel to another at a Labour conference a few years back, obviously that was a non-polluting very needful journey, also a big news story up here was one of our N Scottish MP's last week telling how to reduce his carbon footprint he'll only take flights down to London if absolutely needed,he only lasted a few days before he took a return flight to London to party at the Bafta's

I believe the idea is that people will be encouraged to use the frequent, cheap, under-crowded, reliable and highly maintained alternative public methods of transport during the rush hour

I agree, that if there are no reasonable alternatives, then this is simply another money making exercise.

I thought there's already a scheme now where by we pay per mile according to the efficiency of our cars, it's called fuel duty!

don't get me started on public transport, which in the UK is practically monopolised by First Group, they have their HQ in Aberdeen funnily enough,up here a few years back they were spitting the dummy out and were going to refuse to honour the concession travel for OAP's unless the local council subsidised it by £200k+ pa,this was the same year that they expanded in the USA by buying one of the biggest Coach operators there, and of course they jump straight on the anti-car bandwagon,by claiming how more eco friendly the bus is than the car, funny how I see more particulates coming from the exhausts of most of their fleet than I see coming from the cars/lorries in Aberdeen

want to save the enviroment why dont they have a policy if a bus only had 2 people or 0 people riding on it then it should be taken out of service.

Pisses me off when i see an empty one driving passes me in the bus lane chugging fuel with no one riding it ffs or sitting on the M4 rail road watch taxis and empty coaches use the bus lane...

Speaking of which why is the m4 motorway only 60mph from heathrow.

Catch the train home in 3 and a half hours!!!!!!!

Its a different world outside the M25, time they ventured in to the real world

Dont the ABD defend drivers rights? surely if everyone that signed that petition going around recently joined the ABD then very soon they would have enough power to make the govt notice?

The more people that join the more power it will have.

Organise yourselves !!!!!!!!!
