GT3 wheels - anybody have any experience with having them refurbed ?

I have spoken to one of these mobile refinishing franchises and they say they need to be sent away, re-machined and then re-polished.

As it's a split rim, I guess they will struggle to hold te outter ring that is damaged. Also, as this part is turned and then polised (not painted), I guess they can't fill up the damaged area with epoxy based filler (like Devcon) and re-paint it.

Any thoughts ?

I used Spit and Polish recently. Had to send the wheels back for re-doing when the first time they'd not done that good a job.

I have used chips away in the past and they refurbed a Sports Design I had on my Boxster S once without a problem.

Jumping on to this thread....

I have 18" Turbo alloys that at some point in the past were painted (usual silver alloy colour). The paint has now bubbled around the valves and their is some damage where new tyres have been fitted.

Will these wheel refurb guys be able to sort this out for me ?

Any recommendations for someone to come to my house to do it - Billericay, Essex.

Will

Will,

I know Wicked Wheels will come to your house/work/pub etc and do this for you. As long as you want them painted again that is.

if you want them polishing, they'll have to be sent away.

They have a web site with regional contact details.

When you say polish am I correct in assuming I could have the paint removed and then get the actual alloy polished again how they should be ? In which case that is obviously a better long term solution but depends how long they will go away for and how much. Probably best to wait for a holiday and send them then.

Thanks I get the quotes and weigh up the options etc.

Just spoken to Wicked Wheel. If they don't need shot blasting then £65+vat per wheel. If they do need shot blasting they have to go away and the process will take 4-5 days and £75+vat per wheel.

I have some work being done on the car next week so maybe I will get the wheels done at the same time ???????

Tim I have sent you a Personal mail.
