Saint,

I use to have a 1983 4 spd 930, which was great. Due to the on/off characteristics of the turbo the 4 spd box worked quite well. I had mainly used it for fast road driving but had never tracked her so dont know how well she would have faired on a track. As far as I remember the 5 spd box was fitted to 1989 models only and hence were quite rare but many people retro fitted the 5 spd box for better driveability.

Yuo asked what was best - but best for what? Driving; the 4 speed needs time and skill to get right, the five speed is easier to live with - particularly if not an everyday car. For investment; most people want the 5 speed, for trading in the 5 speed will always do better - talk to people like Autofarm and they will NOT take in a 4 speed.

Greetings, everyone big thank you for all the help and advice would it be worth buying a 4 speed then getting hold of a 5 speed box second hand later on and fitting it?. Would it be a simple swap over a 4 speed to a 5 speed?.

If so how much do they go for second hand?.

SAINT :)
