Have been driving the wifes BMW 3 series touring 325i sport AUTO for a while now and have thoroughly enjoyed it, my 993 has just gone into Premier Luton to repair a non-fault accident (scuff on rear wing) and the accident management people have supplied me with a 325i Sport coupe in MANUAL.

I have to say that strangely I prefer the AUTO?, it seems the power delivery is better, makes the car easier to drive and more enjoyable especially in tiptronic.

I also prefer the touring shape? Weird eh!

When I was looking to buy a 993 I could not get on with the tiptronic, suppose different cars make for different experiences.

Hope the pipe and slippers are not too close.

i love using my wifes auto - esp on long trips and in town - however even with the tip thingy, "spirited driving" is a bit dull.

As for the touring shape, i think there are lots of cars that look better as an estate - a4, passat, 3 series etc

Better get the 993 back soon poon, before you start going on Saga holidays !

Autos suit some cars. I have a 5 Series BMW (Auto) and it is an effortless cruiser. I have driven manual versions of the same car and I found it just didn't suit the character of the car. Conversely, I wouldn'y have my 993 in anything other than manual.

Horses for courses etc.

If you are enjoying your wife's Touring, get Angel Tuning of Leamington Spa to chip it for you. They've just done my 330 Touring auto and although the 0-60 time is only 0.5 secs quicker [launching autos from zero is tricky] the 20 to 120 range is effing brilliant - the power just keeps piling on and on and on and I am running out of road and bravado long before it stops!

Angel is a discreet little operation that will visit you, take the existing data and then go away to tweak it to your motor - not some standard £500 package which only delivers a few BHP. With mine they made 3 visits in total before they were happy and, although the car has not been on on a dyno, I reckon they've added 20 bhp - well worth the £300.

Cheers

Robert
