Can anyone help??

I am looking to buy a 911 RHD convertible.

Preferabably black but not essential with a good history and condition for weekend use. Only wanting to spend 10-13k though!! Live in Essex.

Many thanks

Chris

Blimey, you don't want much!! I think for that sort of budget you're going to be hard pushed to find a convertible in good condition with good history.....you're going to be looking at 3 litre SC's or possibly an early 3.2 Carrera but, as with all things in life, you get what you pay for.

You need to be aware that whatever you buy should have a pre-purchase inspection done on it (about £100 to £150). This should be by a porsche specialist (not the AA!!) and you should accept that you will most likely need to spend some money on it shortly after buying it to rectify small faults. You should also budget on keeping a few grand to one side should anything major go wrong with it (like needing an engine rebuild)

If you can stretch to 15K, a nice 3.2 cab will be within reach.

Chris, welcome to the board.

My words of widsom are:

1) Join the Porsche Club GB so that you have access to "Porsche Post", the monthy magazine. Loads of 911s for sale every month that have had enthusiast (& therefore caring) owners

2) Check the for sale part of this website

3) check 911 & Porsche World magasine classifieds

4) Look at, and drive loads so you learn to spot a good 'un from a bad 'un

5) Don't buy the first one you see!!!! This is a lot easier said than done. The temptation is HUGE

Moderator Hat On....For reference, there is a specific forum for "Wanted" posts but as this has developed more into "buying advice" I will leave it where it is.... Moderator hat off

Thanks for the advice, I will certainly be using your 'words of wisdom' thank you. Also be contacting the Porsche Club, think it's best not to run before I can walk although with the weather so good at the moment the temptation as you say is 'huge', a porsche is for life right, not just for the summer.

Keep you posted
