Unknown 'dry squeal'......???

Hi, I have a 2005 987 Boxster s....
For the first time today there is a terrible squealing noise!
This seems to come from the drivers side rear vent, I believe at the same time as the cooling fan is on. The noise does not increase etc with the engine revving and is quite loud and annoying!
Any ideas please?
