Tyre wear

I have the following tread left on my tyres after 8200 miles:

Near-side front 5.5, 6, 5.5 (mm)

Near-side rear 5, 4, 5

Off-side front 6, 6, 5

off-side rear 5,5,5

A couple of questions:

a) Do I drive like a girl (not sure what else I can be compared to without offending everybody!)

b) What is the average mileage of a 911 tyre?

That's quite good(or bad!). By then they would usually be down to the last couple of mm of tread, I think.

I've just got through a set of rear tyres (Toyo Proxes T1-S) in less than 3000 miles ! The fronts have got about 4mm left. Do you know what the pedal on the right is for ????

Right pedal................nope, what's that?

I really do give it large, but obviously not as large as I think!

I would be lucky to get 5000 of a set of rears

Tread depths on their own can not be relied upon without tire pressure history taken into account. Corner balancing and suspension geometry also play a role.

I agree.

Since owning the car from new I have never once either looked at the tyre pressures or balancing or anything else to do with them other than keeping the alloys clean.

The lesson here - if it 'aint broke don't fix it!

Surprised how the rears have more tread than the fronts. I would of thought you would need 2 sets of rears for each set of fronts.

As for Jamie and 3000 miles ona set of Toyo's, how many track days were included in this?? That day at bedford was pretty hard on tyres, the surface is quite abbrasive, and it was very hot that day.

Cheers

Sean

OK fair enough, the 3000 miles did include 5 track days ! (including two tyre-ripping handling days at Enstone airfield). I was quite pleased they lasted that long ! Just had two new ones fitted for £198 - bit of a bargain really. They were done through Black Circles.com - they were'nt quite as cheap as Mytyres.com (worth a look v. cheap indeed) but were more convenient as they have an authorised fitter just up the road from me.
