Tyre fitting for Turbo?

Hi All,

I've got a new set of tyres waiting to go on my 993 Turbo, and the guy I got the tyres from suggested I might have to find a specialist tyre fitting place to do it, as they don't all have equipment that can handle very wide, very low profile tyres (e.g. 285/30s).

Anyone had any problems? There is a Kwik-Fit near me who have always been very careful with the gold alloys on my Impreza (Shh, don't tell Olivia), so I might try them.

There is auto-image in Edinburgh. I bought some alloys years ago from them, but they were 15`s so dont know how well they would do for big turbo wheels. The link is :

Most people can fit the tyres, the problem I have found with my 295/35's on the GT3 are getting the wheels balanced correctly...

How about going to the Porsche Dealer for fitting?

I had an excellent place in Glasgow do my M3 tyres very well. 18 inch wheels.

The guy charged about £20 to do it (when I was getting the car serviced as well).

Popped in to my local kwik-fit and they did it for me.

Looks like I need to get my wheels refurbished though - when you see them all side by side you can tell that 3 of them have been sprayed, and not very well. The laquer is flaking off too, so will get them bead blasted and powder coated at some point.

Tyre wear - the fronts are evenly worn, but the rears were worn quite a bit more on the inside - is this normal or should I get the alignment checked?

I always go for a alignment check when getting new tyres fitted, given how much tyres costs it makes sense.
