Trickle charging

Hi, bit of advice welcomed; I have a 2000 996. Bought a solar trickle charger, mounted on garage roof, so leaving car not alarmed, unlocked and window half open put charger into cig lighter socket and closed door, key out, obviously.. Oddly, lit digital display stayed on the dials, is this normal for the car? I decided to not leave like that (going away for 3 weeks tomorrow) and locked up as normal with fob, and no lights stayed on dials. Any advice folks as don't want to feck it up or drain it!?

LCD display will power down after a few mins (or instantly on lock).

By the way, you can still lock the car with the window ajar (the wiring etc won't disturb the interior IR motion detectors).

You can either raise window to -10mm etc (to allow wire access) and close door.

Or leave window down half way (even fully open) with charger connect and cable out of window, then lock car using key fob.

But when you lock, keep button pressed and after a second or two the window will raise - release fob button at whatever height you want the window at - ie with just a crack for wiring to escape.

If you like, you can wind down the window too - just unlock using unlock and keep holding the fob button.

You can also do this with the key in the door key hole (ie hold turned to lock raises window, or hold turned to unlock to lower window).

Some vehicles will have the fob button operation disabled in DME (requires PIWIS to enable), but the key in door keyhole method always works.
