Well, there I am this afternoon, setting up my new Road Angel 2 (which I can thoroughly recommend to one and all, albeit on first impressions) and, fully 7 weeks after buying my car, I realise that the 996 has a storage tray in each door. "Doh", as a certain Springfield resident might say.

Can anyone beat this? (I suspect (and hope) not).

I had an M5 E34 BMW for 4 years and one week before selling it discovered how to tilt the sunroof. I'd been driving it round looking at other sunroofs & bitching at BMW for not putting a tilt facility on mine!

Enjoy the 996!

DOH !! I to only just realised that the compartment in the armrest opens with the press of the button. For 6 months I have been opening it with a key, my cousin gets in for a test drive starts pressing and turning knobs and hey presto the compartment opens.

what a plonker......

Well, at least you spotted the armrest compartment! Thankfully, it seems that people with our "special gift" are few and far between ...

There was a chap who never knew he had a second built in cupholder on his facelift 996 recently, you have to push it the other way or something.

In a sense if you do discover something new after a time, its like you have been given a present or a secret for free!

What is this second cupholder of which you speak?

Basically, when you press the cupholder to come out, pull it further out to the left and viola.....cup holder two!
i remember when i found that.....smiled for weeks...even when shopping with the wife!
:wack:

unfortunately yes!

i always used to slate my previous car (Honda S2000 GT) for not having anywhere to store anything bigger than a pack of fags! whilst cleaning it before selling it i removed the hard top so i could clean away all the dust on the canvas roof, whilst breaking my back bent over the center pedestal i heard a click by my waist and thought i had broken one of the numerous bits of plastic.... i had by fluke slightly opened a huge storage bin situated between the seats with the sneeky glass wind sheald on top of it that made it look nothing more than a fixed part of the car.

bloody cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

<CD storage>

I've got a little surprise for you, if you have a facelift with the cup holder in the position you say, the one that comes as factory standard... Next time you pop it out, grab the left hand side (there's a little moulded thumb grip) and pull.... As if by magic 2 cup holders!

Some say on the PCM2 equipped cars, there is a second SIM card holder under the driver's seat......I still haven't seen mine.

I haven't even found cupholder 1, never mind 2! Where is it?

My 12 year old son discovered the sunglasses holder in my wifes car after several months of ownership. It flips down from the roof and me and the missus thought it was a blank panel. :nooo:

More revelations! Beginning to think this car is a magician's prop. Is there a trapdoor on the floor?

Depends what age your car is:

Early Prefacelift came with zero cupholders (and an optional rather nasty clip on vent one)

Later (early) ones could be specified with a twin cupholder where the A/c is on my car, below the top vent (the A/C is moved down to the very bottom slot - its modular)

Facelift cars had a slim one built in at the top which has one cupholder, then a second hidden one, to which this post refers here.

For more information on all three cupholders see here:

I recently bought the 2 cup one for pre facelift cars from Porsche Offical dealer for £50

Easy to install
