Just a quicky been sort of following the threads of debate regarding petrol.

Has anyone actually noticed a difference between optimax and the 99 oct that tesco do, iv used it and feel as though there is nothing in it except price!

Maybe me and rob ought to fill up with different and compare sunday??

After all those problems with Tesco petrol and wrecked engines a few years ago, you wouldn't see me anywhere near one of their filling stations. Oh yes,and my ex works for Tesco

Hey I only use Tesco's finest, which if I tank up from the local, will give us about 2 30 min sessions to compare..assuming you are in the tarts group (group 1)....but if you wanna try I'm game...

Evo did a good article on this last month (I think) used an M5 as a base.

They did, using an M5 and a Golf GTi. The M5 didn't show noticeable differences between any fuels (from Tesco95 to a 105 octane race fuel).

From the test's they did with the Golf, BP Ultimate was top, followed by Tesco99, then Optimax.

They did point out that the freshness of the fuel was very important, and that this could have accounted for Optimax's poor performance (on 5th gear they did a similar test (with a Golf GTi and Subaru, with Optimax coming out on top)

Guy's point is very valid. Dunno about you guys but a tank can last me some time depending on opportunity to get out and about.

The Evo article made very interseting reading...basically the M5 was too 'clever' and couldn't utilise the benefits of the better fuel. The GTi could. :)

But the lesson i learned is that i no longer fill up a whole tank at a time of tesco 99...as Guy mentions fresnhess proved to be the single biggest factor in perfomance of fuel. And there i was for first few months filling up with Optimax and leaving it to degrade in my tank for weeks...
