Targa tops are pants

Bought my first 911 a few weeks ago - an '88 3.2 Carrera Targa.

I absolutely love it but I would just like to say that, considering the incredible engineering that has gone into these cars, whoever designed the Targa roof should be hung until they are dead - I mean my 9 year old son could do a better job than that, and mines a good one!

Still, it's nice to get the roof off and I'm having a brace made to stop the thing folding up as I drive along so I shall complain no more - just wanted to get it off my chest.

Iain (wish I'd bought one sooner) Davis

Oh just wait until it starts leaking

What exactly do you dislike about it? I had a targa 3.2 Carrera for a ew years and was delighted with it. No leaks, and I even got the hang of removing and folding the roof while staying seated!

It's just so naff!

A couple of minor leaks which I can live with, but the silly little clips that hold the front and rear bars in place, the saggy roof lining, the hit and miss way that it attaches to the car - I just think it could have been done so much better, especially by such advanced thinkers as Porsche!

Personally I'd have gone for a T-Bar and 2 rigid panels.

Well I agree that a removeable hard top is preferable but remember how old the Targa top design is!

Wait for the next sunny day to take the top off and go for a nice drive. You might enjoy yourself just enough to forgive it all its flaws then :D

The rest of the car's the same age and there's nothing wrong with that, and considering the car had been in production for over 20 years when this one was made, the top doesn't show 20 years worth of development.

The car's already forgiven - I love it. It's the idiot that designed the Targa top that I can't forgive!
