hi all, see below for a bit of debate...seems like i coudl save £400 (or 30%) by not going to JZ..is "their" ste up really different? any thoughts appreciated...

thanks .i spoke to steve at jz and he said that the set up at sold at carnewal (see below...is "different" to the bilstein / hr set up that JZ sell (JZ set up have narrower collars and have been specially thought out for the needs of the 993 etc etc..)...

sounds a little suspicious to me for what was ensentially a c £400 difference...do you think there is valididity to his claim? or should i just buy the set up at carnewal and go to an idependant for fitting, then jz for alignment?

if i do go down this route, can you recco any independants in london for this? Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

No reason that they should'nt. That is what I did with the independant that I use.

Would ask them first, but if tey won't it is not a compicated job and there are plenty of imdependants who could fit them and then go to JZM for the alignment. Although I don't live near them had phoned them up to see what they would recommend and got the impression they wanted to flog there own stuff.

As they are charging almost double what you would pay from Carnewal, you can understand why!

The dampers come with fitting instructions and I know a few people who have done the job themselves as it is not difficult.

Whatever way you go it is the best mod for the car a the handling is transformed.

This is how I see it!

I have been an extremely happy JZ customer for 5 years, 964 and 993, they are not as cheap as Gert when it comes to modifications. Servicing is cheaper than the OPC and middle of the road for independents.

However if you are a regular customer you get excellent customer service, little jobs often get done at no cost etc etc.

For example my drive gear went on my 964 and Jonas had one in stock, I nipped down to JZ and he fitted it FOC on the spot. Also had various small niggles sorted out FOC on the spot.

They are there to make a profit, if it means that I pay abit over the odds but get the service that I want then its money well spent.

It all depends on what sort of relationship you want with the people looking after your pride and joy.

Just my 10p's worth

I think the set up you were told by JZ is the Roock kit, which is not the same as buying HR spring and HD shocks separately. Although the parts bought separately would work, in the Roock kit the springs are specifically matched to the shocks and thus work much better. It's a specialist tuning company kit and therefore would charge you for the benefit. That's how I understood it anyway.

However, whether you'd want to pay the extra for the difference in handling (which for road use you may well not notice the difference, even on track, I don't think my butt and driving skill could tell the difference) is really personal choice. Some people may extra for a Omega watch when a Casio works just as well, it's your money.

I went for the JZ set up 'cos I couldn't be bother to mess around finding out what works with what. At least now I know when I'm crawling on the track it's my driving to blame and no excuse!
