Stone chips

Why do people get upset about them? Surely it’s just natural wear and tear? I had someone point one out on my car and I just went “oh yeah”, he proceeded to tell me about fixes for them and I asked why one would bother, it doesn’t affect anything, but he seemed aghast that it didn’t bother me.

I’d buy a car with some minor stone chips and I wouldn’t expect money off necessarily just because of that. A gouge on the bonnet might get my attention but not little ones on the lower bumper.

I’m definitely not a detailer though, I’m a driver and perhaps not a typical owner?

I'm in your camp. The front end and bonnet on my 997 would give that chap a stroke. In addition to the chips, the front end has some oddly dimpled paint where one of the local feral tomcats in Meadows1 decided he wanted to mark his territory. It's part of the car's story now.

Right now I'm waiting for a nice cold day, say -5c and clear, so I can pop out - it's more fun when the grip is even, as driving in slush, with soft snow and melty snow on ice mixed with water is awful (doable but no fun). I even got the GTI in a wriggle the other day and it's on brand new winters...

Just consider them as battle scars 😂

I got mine ( bumper) resprayed as the OPC tried their excuses to get out of it.. just as a matter of principle 😉

They drive me mental. I hate them. I hope I can get through the curing period without issue to then get it ceramic coated

I had the 997 ceramic coated ... I think the answer may be the full paint protection film. After the respray, which shall remain unscheduled for the time being.

how long should the paint be left before a PPF is applied?

In passing, what is the cure time from fresh paint to ppf?
