Sports Chrono Plus - yes or no

I am in the process (slow) of selling my 996 and will be buying a 997.

I am looking for a 2010 S and buying from an OPC (2 year proper warranty and cars seem no more expensive than any other dealers)

At this age of car, condition is not an issue as you would assume they would be all pretty much the same. So spec becomes the biggest issue.

A few items can be retro fitted e.g. cruise, audio interface.

But the big question for me is....the Chrono.........is it essential? Cars with it do show a premium price...is it worth it? How often do you use or would I use it.
Would you buy a 09 with it, as opposed to a 2010 without it?

At the moment I have this big thought going through my head that a 2010 sounds so much newer than a 09. Daft I know.

Oh and I even read somewhere that somebody preferred the 3.6 "as it revved more freely". :dont know:

You are firmly in the Gen 2 territory here. Some people like the Chrono, others don't. I like it because it's an unusual instrument, an extra interface on the dash, lights up at night and you can have hours of fun playing with it when stuck in traffic jams! It's a nice to have feature as opposed to PSE which is classed as mandatory on these forums.

Not heard of the 3.6 revving more freely than a 3.8 - does that matter to you?

Matters to my pocket :floor: Carrera price to S is a few grand

Think what they were trying to imply was that the extra horses of the 3.8 were negated by the delivery of the 3.6.(making it in road conditions just as quick)
Didn't make much sense to me.

Where does the 200cc come from......crank throw or bore size?

The chrono is pretty pointless ,BUT is was a must for me :thumb:

I just wanted it because its a gadget and looks cool on the dash , I can tell the kids its a race function :D which makes them smile 8)

IMO and ive driven both many times = The 3.8 isnt any faster then the 3.6 ( dont care what it says on paper )

Drive them both see if you can tell :?:

Interesting question about where the 200cc comes from ? i thought it was bores making them even more fragile ,(thats what ive heard ),,,,,, but may be wrong :dont know:

Why do you think it's pointless? I love Sports Chrono, feels like a different car when it's enabled. I think the dash needs the clock!

Sport mode (with Chrono from the factory or as a retrofit without the clock) is a must-have on a PDK car. On a manual, I'm not sure I'd bother.

Apologies !,

I had a stupid moment and was just referring to the "clock" for some reason  which as i say is a bit pointless (Functionality) but fun thing to have and does finish the dash off :)

Yes the plus with sport button is great and does turn it into a different car
, I never drive anywhere without it turned on ,

I played with mine in traffic for several weeks until i managed to stop it at 9.11. Its been untouched ever since :D

The Sports button it nice, though I turn it off when in stop start traffic, it makes the car jerky. The Sports Plus button stays off most of the time unless I want to hoon - and the roads are clear and free flowing.

Yes I love my chrono too . It feels like a diffent animal when you press sports and then comes sports plus wow !!

There is no doubt that it is two different cars using sport mode, I thought it was a waste until I used it

Fantastic, worth the extra and you will get it back in resale as well as ease if sale due to it desirability :thumb:

You must have created one hell of a traffic jam!

I was oblivious, its all about priorities. ;-)

In my opinion
I think chrono or sports plus is essential on a PDK car as the major advantage is the gearbox up change points are altered.
On a manual car I don't really see the point, there is no bop advantage, it's basically putting the throttle a little bit further down,
I suspect most owners play with it for the first month and probably don't touch it afterwards

In some ways I think sports plus is better as you don't have the centre dial

Having just had my first 991, I notice the sport button is now standard, so I wonder what the point of chrono is to most 991 owners

Ah, this makes a bit more sense to me (gearshifts), as before, it just appeared as a bit of a gimmic, if I am honest.
I did not put on my original post, that I would be looking for a PDK. So it looks like I may have to settle for an 09 when I eventually sell mine. I have spent a lot of money on it, so I am not going to give it away and will have to wait.
