SOLD: For Sale: 2002 996T Polar Silver

Good luck, and can I ask an off topic question?

I have been offered some 2010 maps for my PCM1, but are they any good?

I take it still no 7 digit?

Should I, or should I save some disco dollars?

Hi there.

The 2010 maps added no new functionality at all as far as I could see. No postcode search at all.

It is nice have the updated maps but not essential. It includes the new layout of the A1 where they have removed most of the roundabouts which is nice. It is also includes the fairly new housing estate where I live which wasn't on the 2002 maps. Other than that though not a lot has changed.

Nice to have not essential.

I thought I might get asked this question. Sorry, this is quite a long story!

So when I first bought the car in Feb 2011, I noticed almost immediately that I was losing coolant (I wrote some threads on here about it if you want to do a search). The Indy Dealer had the car back many many times to try to sort it out and replaced 2 of the 3 rads, the water pump, the coolant tank cap and some of the pipework under the car. All under warranty. They also took it in to my nearest OPC who were unable to reproduce the coolant loss issue.

However, eventually I had had enough and took it to a different nearby Indy who immediately diagnosed a leaking head gasket.

I wasn't massively happy with the service I had received and didn't really trust the diagnosis so decided to get another opinion from Ken at Nine Excellence.

Ken's guys took about a day to come to exactly the same conclusion. So I asked him to start stripping the engine down to replace the head gasket and let me know how he got on.

Eventually he took the head apart and put the new gasket in and went to put the head back on. He then noticed that one of the bolts would not re-tighten back up.

We looked through the paperwork and found that an OPC had replaced the head gasket back in 2007. What seems to have happened is that the OPC technician has overtightened the bolt and sheared the thread from inside the bottom part of the head.

We weren't too happy about attempting to rethread the hole in the bottom of the head so Ken found me a second-hand bottom part of the head and replaced it.

While in there, Ken replaced most of the parts of the engine except the Turbos, the top part of the head and the tappets.

I am happy for a potential buyer to talk to Ken about this rebuild and I have all the paperwork to show what work was done and which parts were new.

Hope that is helpful!

Mark
