Snow Joke = Snow Foam Solution

Hi all, thought I'd share this with you as I've seen it done and keen to hear of other experiences as well.

As a non-garage owner I have a car cover - and to avoid the scratching risk my car gets washed every time I put it on ( or I just don't put the cover on defeating the purpose of having it!). Very tedious and I am getting bored of having to wash the car so often. So I have been looking for an easier way and thought I'd try the "snow foam" (worth a youtube search it if you've not seen it)

I believe the general principle is that the foam pulls off a lot of dirt and prevents scratching when then doing a hand wash, but I read mixed reports of whether you did need to wash by hand after doing it so I thought id give it a go.

I have a pressure washer - so I went and bought a lance and some foam.

Car was filthy, and would never have put the cover near it so soaked it with the pressure washer and then foamed it.

After 5-10 mins of leaving the foam to soak ( I need to practice with the lance / mixture to get denser foam) I pressure washed it off and was suitably impressed at how much it had taken off.

Does anyone else have experience, as after first go I have to say I am impressed... :thumb:

I have recently bought a snow foam thingy for the pressure washer. Haven't used it on the 993 yet, but have been practicing on the wife's car and my daily driver. Still not sure how careful I need to be around the engine cover.

I snow foam and pressure wash my car and then wipe down with microfibres cloth. That's it. Nothing else. Have been doing so for about a year.

Have two bucket washed it twice in there as well, but provided its not to bad, I don't think it's necessary.

Got a link to the lance and foam? Been meaning to buy one myself but not sure what to look for.

Cheers Winny

As I had a Karcher PW, I bought a Karcher snow foam thing and some Bilt Hamber snow foam. Still need a bit more practice before using it on the 993.

I've used SF for the past 10 years and it is an excellent touch less clean. I'm not a fan of snow foaming then using MF's to wipe, you will eventually end up with swirls all over your paintwork.
I always do a two bucket method wash after SF. My shampoo of choice is Duragloss 902, simple brilliance..

SF is not a touch free wash unless the car is only dusty, any actual road grime still needs removing with a proper wash, but using the SF allows time for the chemicals to soften the dirt, so less effort is needed afterwards.

I also have the above. I bought the Kercher SF first but it didn't produce foam as you see on youtube. So sold it and got this and now I get proper foam.
I have been doing my washers this way for the last few years:
Pressure wash
Snow Foam
Pressure Wash
2xbucket wash with stone guards and yeti wool mitt
Dry with 2xwaffle drying clothes.

As mentioned before SF doesn't mean you can just foam and go. If you want to go down that route you need to get the Gtechnic solution on your car. I had this on my old 996 and you really did just need to show it a hose for all of the dirt to fall of.

Only downside of the SF is I am sure neighbors and passers by think I am a bit of a wally but that has never bothered me.

I use auto finesse avalanche snow foam which contains the citrus power through it which cuts through tough grime. Superb product, I use it between proper washes with great results.

I bought this:

Its quite well made and did the job. I need to play with the mixtures of SF / water though to get a better foam mix. Put an 1" in the bottom of the container and filled with water, but needed to be a bit stronger I think.

Fill the bottle 80% up the nozzle tells the bottle how much to mix with the water,This way you will get a good foam and it will do its job.

A karcher bottle should do 3-4 washes .

I had mine detailed by a pro and the foam was quite thick after it had been applied and it cleaned the car a treat after it was jetted off. Obviously I had the paintwork done but would of been clean enough to put a cover over it from just the foam.

There is something unusually satisfying about a snow cover car.

I got to get me a better snow foam wand!

There is a couple of points of view above, and I side with both of them. No really!!

I use Maguires Ultimate Wash and Wax as it leaves a little wax behind every time and find that I can just pressure wash off if the car is very mildly dirty/dusty. I then dry with microfibre cloths and put it away.

However if its been rained on its then the two bucket method. I keep it fairly well waxed and try to touch the paint as little as possible to keep the shine up.

Going to order a better snow foam wand though, the Karcher one I have works well, but I want the coated in shaving foam look please. The attached photo was after about 5 mins, but it never looked like the picture above![/img]
