Does any body have advice on transporting my snowboard down to the Alps? I cant really fit it into my 993, and I cant find anything about a roof transport system on any porsche web sites( plenty for a 996).Are there any roof racks or rear carrier systems out there? Has any body any experience?

Thanks in anticipation!

I used a Thule roofrack for transporting my kayak on my 993 and all was fine. The site outlined in the previous reply seems to be the cheapest around for roofracks, and provide good service. Because of the gutters on the 993, the availability and fitting should be no problem.

Do bear in mind that the front bar sits higher than the rear bar due to the shape of the roof, so a snowboard or skis will be high at the front, so ensure they are upside down to avoid acting like a wing.

Good luck with it all, and good to hear of another one being used for practical purposes as well, but be prepared for the funny looks!

Porsche used to manufacture a 'load carrier system' - roofrack to you and me, especially for the 993. I only know this because I picked up a Tequipment 911 (993)brochure from OPC Colchester the other day and there is a picture of one in use on page 15. The part number for the coupe is 993 801 055 00. Don't know whether they still have any in stock but it might be worth a call...

Have a look on RENNLIST I'm sure I remember finding a company that produces 993 racks when I was looking into transporting surf boards.

I use a Thule roofrack to transport my windsurfer. Works fine, but be careful of the 'wing' effect.
