Seeking new specialist

I've had it with my current "specialist". Had the car in for its annual service and MOT - third time at this place.
Car came back dirty when it went in clean, scratches along one of the sills, battery missing from key and dead battery in alarm fob, which granted, may have been on its way out anyway.

When I also asked what kind of oil was used in case I needed a top up at any point, I was told 10/40. Not Mobil or Castrol or anything like that just 10/40 which made me think - cheap stuff ?

I may be a little ***** with some stuff but customer service really costs nothing and when my VW gets service I get a free top up litre included in the cost.

I've had niggles with this place before and said I would not go back - should have stuck to my guns!

Has anyone had 100% genuine satisfaction with their specialist?

Porsche Byfleet - formerly Camtune

125% service!

Never had less than 100% from my place. Nothing is too much trouble and lots of discussion before work starts as to likely costs etc :thumb: If I had an issue would feel confident to raise it.

Performance-Porsche.co.uk is bit too far for you even for the transporter collection/delivery :dont know:

Camtune look after both of mine for the servicing records :thumb:

Go visit you will be amazed how many older cars they have through the doors

I've just switched to wrightune in wallingford, offered a virtual 'open cheque book' to get the car ready for europe. 48,000 mile service, box oil, battery, MOT £650 and ready for the 2000 trouble free miles we enjoyed.

Gave and invited the guy an oppertunity to find anything and everything too.

Hi Scott hope you're well? Did you go to the Poole Quay meet Friday? Weather was a bit better than when we all met up there a couple of years ago!

Is your current specialist a certain JM down there per chance, either way PM me if you want details, I'll leave it at that!

As for 100%, no such thing I'm afraid in my eyes, my standard Indie who I've used for 5 yrs seemingly make the prices up, & two others including the aforementioned and a VERY well known one screwed up so monumentally that your local 'back street' garage could've done a better job. I know we've almost all got OCD on here but returning a car from a full geo with the wheel at 25% off centre is hardly going to result in a happy customer is it!

Cheers
Gavin

I've had good experiences with Camtune, JZ Mactec and Autofarm. The latter two often run discounts on labour during certain times of the year which are worth looking out for.

Good luck.

I've had great service from Northway, near Reading.

Me and my father have had cars serviced there quite a few times and they've always been very pragmatic about ensuring that the car gets everything it needs without excessive cost, and also when I've popped in to ask questions or have been affected by a bout of Porsche paranoia they've gone well beyond the call of duty to help me without charging a penny.

Just to balance the above, this is my first Porsche and I have no experience of any other indies, so am not sure what the relative service quality is like across the market.

Porsche Byfleet (Camtune) in Byfleet, Surrey.

Hi Gavin, yeah went down on Friday but got there quite late. Never as good as the first one of the year but the weather was good.

The indie in question is not your fiends that you mention - more up "North" I had intended going to Byfleet or elsewhere but it slipped my mind come service time.

I was just a bit taken aback with my key battery missing as you have to split the key to get the battery out and the button is fitted from the inside, so it's not as if it could have fallen out. When I mentioned it he just got another one from another key !

The sill scratchesl I couldn't prove weren't there prior to me taking it in. The car had been washed and possibly left out wet so gathered all the dust and ***** that was flying around.

Just piss poor in my opinion.

Tognola in Datchet cannot be far. Very pleased with post-purchase service and all-round sort-out of mine. So much so, I cannot think of anything else that needs doing...

993 specialists and look after a (very trusted, engineer and racing driver) friend's 993 RS.

+1 for Porsche Byfleet - really helpful and friendly. The staff knowledge is great and they are really into the older air cooled 911s.

I took mine in for suspension alignment after I'd renewed all the dampers, springs, bushes, top mounts, etc...

They did a great job - took the time to run through how the kinematic toe is set-up and the labour rates were discounted for the older air cooled models.

I saw several other older 911's in for varying degrees of work and there were no hard sell tactics or suchlike.

Definitely recommend Byfleet from my experience. :thumb:

Ultimately you are the customer - and if that is the way that your current indie is treating your car and your custom...well vote with your feet. If that is the way they are treating all their customers then word will soon get out.

That is one of the Indies I mentioned in my previous post, I wouldn't touch them again with a barge pole. Rather than post the details on here if anyone wants further details PM me.

Surprised. I have no affiliation and can only give my recent experience.
