Rust Question

So, I just made an offer on a 2005 997s manual, subject to PPI (54,000 kms).

The current owner imported the car to Hong Kong (where I live) from the UK and we did a PPI at a Porsche specialist yesterday. When viewing from underneath I noticed more corrosion than I'd expected to find on the exhaust, the oil pump (or seperator?) was covered in rust, as well as some on the wheel nuts. But no visible rust on the body or anywhere else.

I understand road salt is used in UK winters, and wondering if what I saw is about normal for a 8 yr old car from the UK, and anything I should be worried about..?

Much appreciate any advice :bye:

Oil pump is a known issue for rusting, they're not protected and eventually rust through the cover and leak. Circa £300 to replace the part. :nooo:

Thanks - think I can live with that. I guess more worried about whether it indicates greater risk for rust on body etc.. in the future...

I'd say not really.

Any cause for additional concern as the oil pump is a known issue, noted above. Rusty exhaust will only be surface rust, unless you can hear any rattling of the mufflers. The bolts, especially between the manifolds and the cat, do rust. I had mine removed and replaced recently when I had PSE installed.

Thanks for the advice - I feel better!
