Right hand drive conversion

Hello all,

Firstly I have been a member on here for a while but more of a lurker than a poster!

I am looking to purchase a 964 and am after some advice regarding right hand drive conversions. I have seen advertised an imported (in 1999) C2 manual coupe which was originally manufactured for the German market, however it is right hand drive so one assumes it has had a conversion. Does anyone know what is involved with a conversion? Is it safe? Is it to be avoided? Does it devalue the car? Would a normal PPI look at the standard to which it has been done or would a more specific investigation be required?

Or could the car have been manufactured as a RHD German spec car? (not sure why this might be but how would one find out?)

Hopefully someone can offer some words of wisdom!

I would think a conversion in these cars is an expensive job givne that the dash is fabricated into the shell.

You need to look at the code for the vehicle as I believe this will tell you what 'country' the car was made for.

I'm not aware of any significant differences under EU that make a car German-UK specific apart from L/H and R/H drive so I would question why someone would buy a RHD (or convert one) for use in Germany.

Having said that I have a chum who only buys LHD cars in the UK.

Could have been bought by British Army guy based in West Germany.. A lot of them bought cars VAT free and then brought them back. That would explain why it is a right hand drive Gan import

Thanks for the responses chaps. The country code is C00 so definately produced for the German market. I might approach Porsche GB to see if they hold any information about the car.
